Sony tells VAIO owners to hold off on Windows 10

Sony tells VAIO owners to hold off on Windows 10

Most manufacturers are eager to jump on the Windows 10 bandwagon but one former PC maker doesn't seem to be in a rush. Although it has already sold off its VAIO PC business to a Japanese company, Sony is still required to support its existing models in the market. As part of that, it will, of course, need to roll out Windows 10 eventually. "Eventually" here being sometime in Fall apparently. Sony is warning users to stay away from Windows 10 at least for the time being.

Intel Compute Stick Windows 10 edition might be near

Intel Compute Stick Windows 10 edition might be near

It is, of course, inevitable, though probably something we didn't expect to happen soon. Intel's Compute Stick, which turns any display with an HDMI port into a PC, is barely a year old. It came with Windows 8.1 naturally, which makes it eligible for a Windows 10 update any time soon, depending on your luck at the reservation queue. It seems, however, that Intel might have a treat for those impatient to get their hands on the latest Windows, with a Windows 10 version of the HDMI dongle just around the corner.

Windows RT will have its Start Menu too. Somewhat.

Microsoft already put Windows RT on life support though it did promise an update that will at least help keep the infamous Windows stepchild around for a bit longer. That update will be coming next month already and the highlight, and perhaps only highlight, of Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 is that it will have a Start Menu. Yes, Windows RT might also be getting that fancy new Windows 10 look, but don't get your hopes up. It's all going to be just a facade.

Windows 10’s bundled Solitaire includes advertisements

Windows 10’s bundled Solitaire includes advertisements

Solitaire comes with Windows 10, but it's not the Solitaire you've come to know and love. The latest version of Windows includes Microsoft's Solitaire Collection bundled, and as it did in Windows 8.1, the free version will come with a side order of advertisements. If you don't like the advertisements, you don't have to put up with them -- Microsoft will let you pay a subscription fee to drop the ads and get some relatively pointless digital coins and in-game boosts.

Microsoft has a tool for blocking Windows 10 auto updates

Microsoft has a tool for blocking Windows 10 auto updates

As always with anything new, a single blot could be enough to mar an otherwise favorable experience. That case might be especially true for Windows 10, with outcries against Microsoft's decision to make system and app updates not only mandatory but also automatic. While the goal might be laudable, the reality is that there will be some unwanted update that could break or ruin your system, especially those from third party vendors which Microsoft doesn't have completely control of. Fortunately, Redmond has come up with a tool to undo that kind of damage.

HP: new Windows 10 devices will land on Day One

In about two weeks, the world will finally see what Windows 10 is all about. Or at least some will. Microsoft detailed the staged rollout of Windows 10 to various partners and consumers, indicating that most end users won't see the new OS until a much later date. That may be true for existing Windows 7 or 8.1 users, the legit ones at least, but new owners might see a different story. HP is now coming out to say that some people will be able to get their hands on a shiny new Windows 10 laptop on July 29 itself.
