The Verge then found that another Walmart location in Austin, Texas was also offering the same deal. Read The Full Story

Samsung apes Apple with store-in-a-store

, Mar 29th 2012 Discuss [0]

Samsung has borrowed a leaf out of Apple's retail guidebook, announcing a deal with UK handset merchants Phones 4u to put a special Samsung-branded store inside its flagship London location. The new concession will open on Friday this week, and offer what's promised to be the largest range of working Samsung demo hardware available to the public. Meanwhile, Samsung and Phones 4u have apparently been coaching staff to levels of Samsung enthusiasm that presumably match Apple retail fervor. Read The Full Story

Best Buy nearly matching Apple in iPhone sales

, Mar 23rd 2012 Discuss [0]

While Apple stores are immense in popularity, their scope doesn’t reach quite as wide as some other retail outlets. A few years ago, Apple partnered up with Best Buy in order to shift more iPhones. Best Buy host miniature Apple stores wtihin their own retail space, typically in locations Apple feel aren’t financially justifiable. That partnership is definitely paying off, as Best Buy sells almost as many iPhones as Apple. Read The Full Story

Avi Greengart’s Toy Fair 2012

, Feb 19th 2012 Discuss [0]

I have attended and spoken at a lot of trade shows over the years – consumer electronics, telephony, computing, broadcasting, database programming, home theater, whatever SXSW is – but I have always wanted to go to Toy Fair. Even the name of it sounds like fun – who doesn’t like toys? This year I finally found an excuse to go, and it wasn’t to see Star Wars toys. (Well, at least it wasn’t the only reason.) At CES this year, there were tons of connected toys – board games that interact with an iPad, children’s educational tablets, and lots of flying things with iPhone controllers. I covered a few of these in my holiday gift guide, but thought that it would be worth attending Toy Fair 2012 and seeing how deeply connectivity really went in the toy industry. What new gadgets would I find? Are vendors embedding 3G and 4G radios into toys, or just WiFi? Toy Fair agreed, and gave me a press pass.

SlashGear Weekly Roundup Video – June 26, 2011

, Jun 26th 2011 Discuss [4]

New hope for the Nokia and Microsoft partnership came this week with the unveiling of the N9 MeeGo handset and the Windows Phone Mango version of it dubbed the “Sea Ray.” The N950 sports a similar styling but will have a larger screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and be deemed a developer-only device. All in all, a positive week in developments for Nokia, but not so much for RIM. The BlackBerry maker began layoffs this week and further cut back sales estimates of the PlayBook tablet.

, Jun 8th 2011 Discuss [5]

HTC's new flagship phone, the HTC Sensation 4G, is reportedly going on sale early at some Walmart locations. The phone was recently knocked for having an iPhone-like "death grip" signal strength problem, which the company quickly dismissed as false. If the issue doesn't perturb you and you'd like to grab one early, then be on the look out at your local Walmart. Read The Full Story

Walmart Drops Price on iPhone 4 to $149 in Select Stores

The hard part will be finding one in the store. We were unable to confirm which stores will participate in the price drop or how many were still in stock. Walmart has sold out of the iPhone on-line at $199 in both Black and White. Verizon still has the iPhone 4 at $199 with new 2-year agreement. With the Holidays so far away, we can only guess that this move was based on the mounting rumors about the iPhone 5. Read The Full Story
