Vizio readies laptops and all-in-ones for low-price PC push
Budget TV company Vizio will extend its reach into computing, beginning with a range of new models to be showcased at CES 2012 next week. CTO Matt McRae confirmed the segue and a June launch window – along with ”a price that just doesn’t seem possible” – to Bloomberg in an interview about the company’s PC plans, following up with a gallery of eye-catching desktop and laptop renders to whet our appetite ahead of the show next week. Tablets: an Android 2011 Retrospective
When the year 2011 is looked back upon by the Google historians, they’ll mark it as the first time they officially made an effort to bring the Android platform to devices with displays larger than handheld smartphones – what we saw, as a result, was everything from the XOOM to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The folks at Google created a version of their mobile operating system Android titled Honeycomb and numbered version 3.0. This operating system began its life in the wild on the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch tablet that by the end of the year would be replaced by the XYBOARD, a tablet which physically in weight and thickness to the iPad 2 – the dominant force in the tablet space throughout the vast majority of this past year.
Panasonic Toughpad A1 and Toughpad B1 Android tablets revealed
This week the folks at Panasonic have revealed one tablet and named a second, the first being the Toughpad A1, a 10.1-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet with a processor from no less than Marvell, the most elusive chipmaker of all. Of course Marvell has appeared in mobile devices before, but the last time we spoke about them in regards to a mobile device was in the Vizio Tablet, then before that was a Chinese smartphone and on the Chumby 8. Here we see Marvell sitting inside the tablet with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, this aside 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB more.

Vizio Tablet gets VIA Plus 1.2 software update
The Vizio Tablet has gotten a software update that promises to enhance overall performance. A somewhat laggy interface was a major issue that plagued the otherwise favorable budget-friendly tablet. The update brings the Vizio Internet Apps Plus (VIA Plus) custom interface up to version 1.2, while it continues to run on top of Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread.

Amazon Tablet to undercut iPad price by hundreds
The long rumored iPad-killer that could be Amazon’s upcoming tablet is expected to launch sometime in September or October. But with the recent $99 fire sales of the discontinued HP TouchPad doing amazingly well, there are new reports that Amazon may introduce their tablets at a similarly low price point to excite the masses.
Vizio 8-inch tablet with WiFi gets support for Hulu Plus
We have talked more than once about the cheap and cool Vizio 8-inch Android tablet. The tablet is now at retailers around the country for $299 making it a cheap tablet option. Vizio has announced that the tablet will now support Hulu Plus. I think we all knew this support was coming to the tablet since Hulu plus and Netflix are two of the most popular video streaming services out there.

This past week brought more patent litigation drama along with new rumors for the exciting gadgets to come in the next few months. Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 have been blocked in Europe after Apple won a preliminary injunction on the tablet. Apple became the world’s largest company briefly when its market valuation surpassed that of Exxon Mobile. Windows Phone Mango is now rumored for a September 1 launch with Nokia confirming closure of its US Symbian and feature phone operations. Vizio Tablet Gets Price Cut To $299
The budget-friendly Vizio Tablet has just become even friendlier on your wallet. The 8-inch Android slate was originally released on Vizio's own website and to limited retailers with a price tag of $329. But now it's finally hitting the store shelves of Walmart, Sams's Club, Costco, and Amazon, sporting a new low price of $299.

Archos Arnova 8 G2 Android Tablet Seen at FCC
The folks at Archos have delivered their newest iteration of the Arnova 8 G2 tablet to the FCC, showing off both internal views and accessories that will be included with the tablet as it reaches store shelves in the near future. This device has appeared at the FCC previously but has not until this point been seen by the public in photos as clear as what's been seen today. Two lovely silver rulers frame the device in all its glory in the main image here in this post.

SlashGear Weekly Roundup Video – July 31, 2011
This past week seems to be all about what’s to happen this coming August and September, which look to be eventful months. Samsung began teasing its Galaxy S II for its US debut in August, while a white version was announced for the UK around the same time. Motorola confirmed that its Droid Bionic will launch in September and also arriving then is its 4G LTE upgrade for Motorola XOOM 3G customers. Vizio Honeycomb tablet hits Amazon for $350
Vizio began taking limited pre-orders for its 8-inch Android tablet back at the start of the month, but now Amazon has got in on the action and they've undercut the manufacturer too. There's no launch date for the Honeycomb slate - Vizio itself was expecting the first shipments to head out on July 18 - but you can stake your claim now for $349.99.
