Ultramobile PC and MID manufacturer Viliv is imminently close to shutting down, reports suggest, amid claims that the company has been in receivership for some time. The US support line has been disconnected and, UMPC Portal's sources tell them, Viliv has been attempting to find a buyer for its tablet and convertible notebook designs, to no avail. The viliv X series tablets have been announced at this year's CES 2011. They support full HD displays that make viewing movies a much more pleasurable experience. Unsure of where these tablets will land, viliv tablets are completely open to either WiMAX, 3g HSPA, or the EVDO networks. Motion's latest tablet PC may not be as slim as the Viliv X70 Windows 7 Slate, but the Motion CL900 is a whole lot more resilient. The ruggedized slate has a 10.1-inch 1376 x 768 display with Gorilla Glass and meets military specs for dust, drop, sand and temperature; it also supports both finger and stylus input, has Intel's latest 1.5GHz Oak Trail Atom CPU, and can be outfitted with Gobi 3000 broadband. Viliv X7 and X10 Android tablets, X70 Win7 tablet, get official

Viliv has outed its range of three new tablets at CES 2011 this week, as promised, the Viliv X7 Android Tablet, Viliv X10 Android Tablet, and the Viliv X70 Windows 7 Slate. Each Android tablet is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Cortex-A8 processor with Power VR SGX 540 GPU and 512MB of memory, the X7 having a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen while the X10 has a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen. Meanwhile, the X70 Windows 7 slate runs an unspecified "next-gen" Intel CPU with a 7-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen. Read The Full Story

Viliv's CES 2011 plans were previewed yesterday, with the company's X7 and X10 Android tablets and X70 Windows 7 slate all mentioned, but it turns out that there's a fourth device on the cards which could be even more interesting. Pocketables spotted a Viliv "Media Tablet Phone" mentioned in the invite email but not in any of the press shots, suggesting the company is looking to make an even smaller MID. Read The Full Story

Viliv has joined the crowd of companies promising tablets for CES 2011 next month, with both Android and Windows 7 models promised. The Viliv X7 Android Tablet and X10 Android Tablet are billed as offering "anywhere connectivity" (suggesting 3G or perhaps even 4G wireless) and the "longest battery life" respectively, with the X7 presumably having a 7-inch display while the X10 has a confirmed 10.2-inch display. In among Intel's hyperbole for the Atom Z6xx launch earlier this week were some impressive stats for internet browsing performance, contrasting what users of Moorestown-based MIDs, tablets and smartbooks could expect in comparison with rival devices.  Steve Paine over at UMPC Portal decided he couldn't wait for the first Z6xx demo units, and so set up some browser tests of his own; he locked a Menlow-based Viliv X70 MID to 800MHz and pitted it against the iPad for some real-world surfing.
