Viliv X70 arrives at Newegg; more expensive than rivals

If there's one thing capitalism has taught us, it's that competition is usually good for prices.  Newegg have just joined Dynamism in offering the Viliv X70 UMPC, the 7-inch Korean touchscreen tablet, which you'd expect to mean prices were pushed down.  Unfortunately Newegg don't seem to have got that memo; their prices are actually a little more expensive than the existing offers.

Viliv X70 UMPC delayed by components shortages

Preorders for Viliv MIDs and UMPCs just don't seem to be blessed with the best of luck.  After the Viliv S5 launch brought down importer Dynamism's servers and left many struggling to complete their orders, the launch of the Viliv X70 has been struck by components shortages at the factory.  In an email to those who preordered the 7-inch touchscreen device, Dynamism suggests that "MIDs have been especially popular this year" which surprised components suppliers.

Viliv X70 UMPC gets reviewed: best 7-inch handheld yet

We've already seen enough of Viliv's X70 to know it could arguably be the company's best device to-date, and now the first full review of the 7-inch UMPC is in from our friend Steve over at UMPC Portal.  He describes the X70 as "the best 7-in Tablet UMPC we've ever tested", praising its great build quality, long battery life and impressive web browsing and media playback.

Viliv X70 and S5 MID video comparison

Attention for the MID platform seems to be increasing every day, and the poster-children of the new ultraportable revolution are Viliv's S5 and X70.  The 4.8-inch S5 paved the way, and now even hitherto-doubtful people seem to be paying attention to the 7-inch X70, not least because of its $599 starting price.  jkOnTheRun's James Kendrick is one of the few people with both Viliv models on hand, and he's been answering questions about the pair in a video which you can see after the cut.

For the past few months, nobody even vaguely interested in MIDs could've escaped hearing about Viliv's S5.  Now, the company is obviously hoping to drum up the same enthusiasm about their X70, another Atom-based device but this time with a larger, 7-inch WSVGA touchscreen.  The first review device has landed over at jkOnTheRun, and that can only mean one thing: a first-impressions video.
