ViewSonic ViewPad 7e priced and dated for USA release

While this isn't the first time we've seen the tablet named ViewSonic ViewPad 7e, this is the first time we've gotten an official announcement on how we'll be able to grab hold of it here in the USA. This device has an "E" at the end of it because it is indeed the Entry-level tablet offered by ViewSonic. What you'll get is Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a unique interface over the top of it designed by the folks who made SPB Shell 3D. You'll be running this and a 1GHz single-core processor on a 7-inch display with 800 x 600 pixel resolution. Look like the inexpensive tab for you?

ViewSonic ViewPad 7e Android Tablet Hands-On [Video]

This week we've been getting a look at a whole handful of Android tablets at IFA 2011, one of the most inexpensive of which being the ViewSonic ViewPad 7e. The "e" in the name here stands for "Entry" aka "Entry-Level" meaning that it'll certainly be ViewSonic's least expensive tablet on the market for the time being. We got the opportunity to take a close look at this lovely white-bordered Android tablet and we'd just love to show you what it's all about.

This week we got the opportunity to take a hands-on look at quite a few devices, today playing host to a set of tablets that may well change the tablet world forever - is the ViewSonic ViewPad 7x one of them? This is an Android 3.2.x Honeycomb tablet, a tablet we first got wind of earlier today, this year's IFA conference in Berlin certainly not letting us down on the tablet front. You'll find a whole new user interface, a lovely 7-inch display size, and the quality you've come to expect from all ViewSonic hardware.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 launch [Video]

ViewSonic announced official pricing and availability for their ViewPad 7 Android slate this morning, and we grabbed some hands-on time with the one production model running final software the company had on hand.  It's thankfully a slicker, more stable experience than the prototype we saw at IFA 2010, with Android 2.2 Froyo moving quickly on the ViewPad 7's 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.  More details, together with benchmarks and pricing, after the cut.

Viewsonic Viewpad 7 pre-orders open for Nov 15 UK debut

Viewsonic Viewpad 7 pre-orders open for Nov 15 UK debut

If the fast-approaching Galaxy Tab is too rich for your blood, how about a 7-inch Android slate for a couple hundred less; Viewsonic's Viewpad 7 is roughly the same size as the Samsung, but has gone up for pre-order in the UK at £399.99 ($634) versus the Galaxy Tab's £529.99.  Your money gets you a lower resolution display (800 x 480 versus 1024 x 600) and a slower processor, but for many the cost saving - itself likely to increase as more vendors start offering the Viewpad 7 - might push the slate into impulse-buy territory.

With a sub-£350 price tag for a 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo tablet, with 3G voice and data, a capacitive touchscreen and digital camera, we were wondering where the catch was with the ViewSonic ViewPad 7. Having used the compact slate at IFA 2010 this morning, we're still left searching for the compromise: on the face of it, you're getting much of what Samsung is delivering with the Galaxy Tab, only at (perhaps) half the price.

ViewSonic Viewpad 7 gets official: sub-£350 Android 2.2 tablet

ViewSonic has come clean on its first Android tablet, the 7-inch ViewSonic Viewpad 7.  Running Android 2.2 on a capacitive touchscreen, the Viewpad 7 has an integrated GSM/3G modem for phone and data connectivity, a front-facing VGA webcam and a 3-megapixel rear camera.  It can be used as a regular Android phone - albeit a big one - but of course it's really intended to replace your iPad.
