ViewSonic ViewPad 7x and ViewPad 10Pro official

ViewSonic has officially launched the ViewPad 7x, the company's 7-inch Android Honeycomb tablet leaked earlier this month, along with bringing its new dual-booting 10-inch slate, the ViewPad 10Pro. The ViewPad 7x packs NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor along with HSPA+, HDMI and a 1024 x 600 display, while the ViewPad 10Pro gets a 1.5GHz Intel Oak Trail Z670 processor running either Windows 7 Pro or Android 2.2.

Steve Jobs “afraid” of 7-inch tablets reckons ViewSonic VP

ViewSonic's new ViewPad Android tablets aren't expected to reach the US market until later this year, but company VP Adam Hanin is already taking a fighting stance when it comes to Steve Jobs' criticisms of 7-inch slates.  Speaking to Laptop, Hanin says the Apple CEO "may be a little afraid of this category" and is lashing out at "whatever he can to attack because he sees (7-inch tablets) as a challenge to the dominance of the iPad."

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 launch [Video]

ViewSonic announced official pricing and availability for their ViewPad 7 Android slate this morning, and we grabbed some hands-on time with the one production model running final software the company had on hand.  It's thankfully a slicker, more stable experience than the prototype we saw at IFA 2010, with Android 2.2 Froyo moving quickly on the ViewPad 7's 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.  More details, together with benchmarks and pricing, after the cut.

Viewsonic Viewpad 7 pre-orders open for Nov 15 UK debut

Viewsonic Viewpad 7 pre-orders open for Nov 15 UK debut

If the fast-approaching Galaxy Tab is too rich for your blood, how about a 7-inch Android slate for a couple hundred less; Viewsonic's Viewpad 7 is roughly the same size as the Samsung, but has gone up for pre-order in the UK at £399.99 ($634) versus the Galaxy Tab's £529.99.  Your money gets you a lower resolution display (800 x 480 versus 1024 x 600) and a slower processor, but for many the cost saving - itself likely to increase as more vendors start offering the Viewpad 7 - might push the slate into impulse-buy territory.

ViewSonic MB-P702 PMP/ereader surprises by not being a tablet

ViewSonic MB-P702 PMP/ereader surprises by not being a tablet

We'll admit, we were so intrigued by ViewSonic's ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 100 last week, we didn't spot their MB-P702 PMP/ereader at the booth.  According to imp3, the 7-inch slate may look like yet another tablet, but actually it's a whole lot more focussed than the similarly-sized ViewPad 7.  No Android, no web browsing or Google Maps; just 1080p HD video playback with an HDMI output.

ViewSonic ViewPad 100 dual-boot Android/Win7 slate hands-on

ViewSonic ViewPad 100 dual-boot Android/Win7 slate hands-on

ViewSonic's second tablet is more of a work-in-progress than the ViewPad 7, with the ViewPad 100 being a 10-inch dual-booting Android/Windows 7 tablet that's still undergoing plenty of finessing. With a 1024 x 600 two-point multitouch capacitive touchscreen, Atom N455 processor and 1GB of DDR3 memory, it makes for a reasonable netbook replacement (as long as you don't mind losing the hardware keyboard) but, thanks to the presence of Android, also doubles as a quick-loading multimedia player and general entertainment slate.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 hands-on [Video]

With a sub-£350 price tag for a 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo tablet, with 3G voice and data, a capacitive touchscreen and digital camera, we were wondering where the catch was with the ViewSonic ViewPad 7. Having used the compact slate at IFA 2010 this morning, we're still left searching for the compromise: on the face of it, you're getting much of what Samsung is delivering with the Galaxy Tab, only at (perhaps) half the price.

ViewSonic Viewpad 7 gets official: sub-£350 Android 2.2 tablet

ViewSonic has come clean on its first Android tablet, the 7-inch ViewSonic Viewpad 7.  Running Android 2.2 on a capacitive touchscreen, the Viewpad 7 has an integrated GSM/3G modem for phone and data connectivity, a front-facing VGA webcam and a 3-megapixel rear camera.  It can be used as a regular Android phone - albeit a big one - but of course it's really intended to replace your iPad.
