Motorola sales dip under Verizon iPhone 4 pressure

Motorola sales dip under Verizon iPhone 4 pressure

Motorola has revealed smartphone sales have already dipped in anticipation of the Verizon iPhone 4, with the company's Q4 performance impacted even before the official announcement had been made. According to CEO Sanjay Jha,"since the announcement of the iPhone, we have seen a little slow down in our sell through of devices at Verizon. There was anticipation of devices coming to Verizon even prior the announcement of the iPhone." However, Jha also suggests that expectations around a flagship Motorola device in Q1 2011 also impacted the previous quarter's sales.

Verizon iPhone 4 order pages go live at Apple

Verizon iPhone 4 order pages go live at Apple

We're not quite at the February 3 sales date for the Verizon iPhone 4, but the purchase pages for the CDMA smartphone have already gone live on Apple's site. Seemingly activated in the update earlier today, the $199 16GB and $299 32GB purchase links walk you through either setting up a new Verizon account or adding the iPhone 4 to an existing account, together with confirming the various voice, data and messaging plan options.

Verizon iPhone 4 $50 more off-contract than AT&T version

Verizon iPhone 4 $50 more off-contract than AT&T version

Prior to the Verizon iPhone 4 getting its official launch, at least one analyst speculated that the CDMA smartphone would be more expensive than its AT&T sibling. Unsurprisingly that's turned out not to be the case, at least given how most people will buy the iOS smartphone - with an agreement, it'll be the same $199.99 for the 16GB and $299.99 for the 32GB as the GSM version - however you will have to spend a little more for an off-contract handset.

A leaked document from an internal Best Buy training manual may put the national retailer in some hot water, if it turns out to be true in any capacity. According to GearLive, who managed to get a snapshot of the internal document, it looks like Best Buy will be not only shying away from the Verizon iPhone 4, but going as far as to not recommend it to would-be customers.

Verizon iPhone deal 4yrs in the making; shared roadmap ahead

Verizon iPhone deal 4yrs in the making; shared roadmap ahead

Verizon's iPhone negotiations spanned several years, according to the carrier, and will see them obligated to share network roadmap information with Apple. In return, Apple will grant Verizon access to their own product roadmap, though we shouldn't expect to see any device on that list bearing the carrier's logo. Speaking to BusinessWeek, Verizon president Lowell McAdam confirmed that the Verizon iPhone 4 is the culmination of near nine months of technical collaboration.

The Impact of the Verizon iPhone on Android’s Growth

The Impact of the Verizon iPhone on Android’s Growth

Typically after press conferences I attend or when major industry announcements happen, I take a lot of questions from the press asking my opinion on the news. I’m always happy to speak with journalists on stories they are working on and provide them a quote. As a professional analyst, this is part of my job.

Yesterday was no exception. After the Verizon iPhone launch press conference I spoke with a number of folks in the press, and one question in particular came up which I thought required further analysis. That question was what impact would iOS's presence on Verizon have on Verizon’s current and future Android devices.

Verizon iPhone 4 Doesn’t Suffer from Death Grip

Verizon iPhone 4 Doesn’t Suffer from Death Grip

Now that the device is real, and we've managed to get some hands-on time with it, we were curious to see if Verizon's and Apple's claims that the only-slightly altered antenna version for the CDMA-based variant of the iPhone 4 (in the United States) wouldn't suffer from the same problems as its GSM cousin were true. We took the device in our hand, and we began to put our hand, and fingers, in all of the spots that the antenna usually suffered from. We managed to get some interesting results.
