Verizon Could Gain 1.4 Million Subscribers Due to iPhone, According to Credit Suisse

In light of the article we ran a little while ago, the one where AT&T Chief Randall Stephenson outlined why he wasn't worried about AT&T losing its exclusivity deal on Apple's iPhone, this new report from Credit Suisse does a lot to argue both points, and all from the same graph. Fortunately for Verizon, the news is only good. As for AT&T, it's surprising to see that Stephenson's comments may have been more accurate than anyone would have guessed, as Credit Suisse finds that, while Verizon may gain 1.4 million customers from AT&T, the exodus from Ma Bell actually won't be that bad.

Twin iPad Cortex A9 refresh, Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 and AMD Fusion Apple TV all predicted for Q1 2011

It isn't often that DigiTimes quote their own research arm as primary source, but whenever they do the rumors tend to be particularly juicy.  Today's report is no different: they're two new iPads in Q1 2011 (both 9.7- and 7-inch models) together with a CDMA iPhone hitting mass production in December 2010, and a new Apple TV based on AMD Fusion.

Verizon testing 4G LTE iPhone for 2010 release?

Verizon testing 4G LTE iPhone for 2010 release?

Salt cellars at the ready, folks.  Despite an aggressive anti-iPhone campaign kicked off over the weekend and an incoming Android device that's said to have had the biggest Google involvement in hardware to-date, Verizon is tipped to have been testing a 4G LTE iPhone on their fledgling next-gen network.  According to fonefrenzy's unnamed sources, Verizon and Apple have been testing the CDMA iPhone over the past few months, with carrier CEO Lowell McAdam double-dipping on his trips to Mountain View, California, by stopping by both Google and Apple's headquarters.

Verizon Wireless has announced that it will have a couple new budget smartphone offerings landing online and in stores in the coming weeks. Verizon XLTE expands into half a dozen new markets

Verizon XLTE expands into half a dozen new markets

Verizon has announced an expansion of its XLTE market. With XLTE, the wireless carrier says it has essentially doubled “the number of lanes on a freeway … all traffic can move faster but we haven’t change the speed limit”. It brings faster peak speeds and a higher capacity to 4G LTE markets getting service via the AWS spectrum, and XLTE-ready devices can use both the AWS spectrum and the original 700MHz 4G LTE spectrum that spans the nation, among other things.

On July 4th, Declare Tech Independence

On July 4th, Declare Tech Independence

July 4th doesn't have to stop at barbecue food and Will Smith kicking extraterrestrial butt: it's a great opportunity to declare tech independence, too. Whether it's free trials that you signed up for and forgot to cancel before they started charging your credit card, an old cellphone plan that's now looking less than competitive, or your unwatched cable box sucking down cash every month in return for a thousand channels you ignore, there are plenty of ways to make today a more rewarding Independence Day.

iPhone: AT&T 2-year contract no longer available at Apple Stores

About two weeks ago it was reported that US carrier AT&T was going to begin moving away from 2-year contracts on smartphones it offers, instead trying to push customers to sign up for its AT&T Next plan. The change was predicted to begin on June 1st, and while it's a few days late, it appears that's what AT&T is now doing, starting with iPhones sold at Apple Stores. As of today, purchasing an iPhone on AT&T from Apple will require users to choose AT&T Next.

Debunked: “Galaxy S6 Edge more costly to make, cheaper to buy than iPhone”

Debunked: “Galaxy S6 Edge more costly to make, cheaper to buy than iPhone”

The differences are slight - or they might seem slight to the untrained eye - but the Galaxy S6 Edge's cost to Samsung is higher than the average phone. In fact, according to a study being published by IHS today, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge's estimated cost to build is higher than an equivalent* iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, but costs less for a consumer to buy outright on the market today. *Equivalent, that is to say, if you consider what they present to be the same.

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus SIM-free models now available

Yesterday word surfaced that Apple would begin offering the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus today with a SIM-free option, allowing those buying off-contract to get a model without a T-Mobile SIM card included. Fast-forward to this morning, and such an option is indeed now available on Apple's website. This follows a relatively long wait for such an option, and will also be available to those who buy one of the handsets in-store rather than online. The price is the same as the with-SIM version.
