NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 review roundup

, Mar 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

NVIDIA’s Kepler-based GeForce GTX 680 arrived this morning with no shortage of promises: faster than the Fermi GPUs of old, but cooler running and more power efficient too. According to the graphics company, the new 28nm Kepler technology can do twice as much graphical magic per watt than previous GPUs, with the ability to drive four monitors from a single card. Plenty of hyperbole, then, but how does the GTX 680 live up in practice? We’ve been crunching through the launch-day reviews; check out our summary after the cut.

, Nov 23rd 2011 Discuss [5]

HTC is reportedly considering producing a Chromebook using Google's Chrome OS, despite underwhelming sales of Acer and Samsung hardware using the cloud-centric platform. The new HTC - billed as an "internet-access device" - would differ in that the company is apparently looking to "combine the advantages" of Android and Chrome OS, according to DigiTimes' supply chain sources, though it's unclear if that means a dual-boot arrangement or something else. Sony Tablet S Review

, Aug 31st 2011 Discuss [24]

It’s been some time since Sony had a tablet on the market. Times have changed since the VAIO UX’s day, though, and where once tablets were niche devices, now they’re making headway into our living rooms. The Sony Tablet S is the first model of the company’s new strategy, packing Android Honeycomb into a hardware design that’s a little more interesting than many rivals have managed. Late to the game against the iPad, though, has the Tablet S’ tardiness undermined its potential? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

PsiXpda planning Psion 5mx-style QWERTY Android MID

, Jun 20th 2011 Discuss [7]

PsiXpda, who you may remember channeled some classic Psion nostalgia for their UMPC in late 2009, is planning a second attempt on the companion device market with a design that sticks more faithfully to the fondly-remembered Series 5mx. Founder Paul Pinnock told Reghardware that, while the PsiXpda sold out its (admittedly tentative at just 2,000 units) production run, the new model will use Android and have a more imaginative form-factor.

Google Being Sued Over the Chromebook Name

Google is one of the parties being sued by Salt Lake City based company ISYS Technologies over the rights to the Chromebook name. The court case also attempts to block Amazon.com, Acer, Best Buy, and Samsung from marketing the Chromebooks and selling them later this month. Could this mean the end of the Chromebook as we know it? Will the name be changed at the last minute to the “Chrome U?” We feel rather confident the speedy Chrome OS laptop will still be released, but it is unclear how this case will affect the upcoming launch. , May 23rd 2011 Discuss [1]

Back in November, we talked a bit about the tiny modular computer from Xi3 that had debuted and the machine showed up again at CES back in January. The company is back with a new version of that modular computer called the Xi3 ChromiumPC. It still has that modular design of the original machine we talked about and the main difference is that this one will run the Google Chrome OS. The company is mum on pricing, but it should be somewhere in the same $850 realm the other Xi3 computer was pegged for when it first launched. Read The Full Story
