We have been talking about the Intel Ultrabooks that are heading to market for a while now. The machines will be offered from several computer makers including HP, Asus, and Acer. Initially Intel promised an under $1000 price and some of the Ultrabooks will come in under $1000. Those will be basic stripped models however. Most will sell for well for that $1000 tag.

Intel to show Windows 8 tablets, ultrabooks at Build

Intel may be showing off some tablets and ultrabooks running Windows 8 at both the Intel Developer Forum and at Microsoft's Build developer conference, which kicks off tomorrow. We'll be covering the Build event live, so make sure to check back for all the developments. It's believed that Microsoft could be giving away a Windows 8 tablet from Samsung, so there should be some good Windows 8 hardware to see this week.

If you liked the idea of the Intel Ultrabook platform with its good performance and very thin and ultraportable form factor at price of under $1000 I am sure you weren't alone. The idea of a notebook with these features was very intriguing. We had heard that Intel was subsidizing the machines heavily and they would be on the market soon at that magic under $1000 price point. Apparently, the price isn't going to be delivered in the sub-$1000 range we had hoped for.

Intel subsidizing notebook makers to lure them into producing Ultrabooks

The notebook market is cooling right now with much of the focus from consumers on tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the iPad 2 rather than notebooks. Some notebooks are still selling well enough though. Intel is trying to launch its Ultrabook concept and so far, the biggest announcement in the Ultrabook realm is the Asus UX21. According to sources cited by DigiTimes, Intel is prepared to spend some money to lure the notebook makers into building Ultrabooks.

Lenovo has rolled out a variety of business-chic ThinkPad laptops over the past few months, as well as the wonderfully flexible Yoga 2 Pro. We've reviewed several of the company's devices in recent times, including the T440s, the X240, and the ThinkPad Yoga. While they're all fine machines, none of them live up to the sheer beauty and svelte thin profile that is the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. With this laptop comes an ultra-thin profile that tapers into an edge so thin, one is tempted to think it can slice bread, a high 2560 x 1440 resolution display that is aptly described as eye-candy, and the iconic ThinkPad design.

Dell’s acceptance of A4DP’s wireless standard this week means that the company will likely bring on wireless charging notebooks in the near future. How Dell’s wireless charging will be implemented exactly is another matter entirely.
