Microsoft native Remote Desktop coming to iOS and Android

Microsoft native Remote Desktop coming to iOS and Android

In a move that's sure to make the folks at Splashtop less than pleased, the team at Microsoft behind the native Remote Desktop functionality inside Windows have announced extensions to iOS and Android. This means that there will be apps from Microsoft for your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, and Android tablet that allow you to see your Windows PC's desktop from your smaller device. Seeing it there will also include full tap access - and with the touch-friendly abilities of Windows 8, the whole process is likely going to take on a functionality not unlike that of a full touchscreen desktop computer, too.

ASUS Transformer Pad reboot teased for September 4th

ASUS Transformer Pad reboot teased for September 4th

It would appear that the promotional team at ASUS have decided it's time to begin promoting their next-generation tablet, one that'll transform as the last several generations have and will be revealed in full on the 4th of September. This device is appearing in a black case in ASUS first teaser image, complete with essentially no identifying marks suggesting it's any different from the last Transformer tablet - the logo is even in the same place (essentially). Also this week the folks at Tinhte have dug up an ASUS tablet from the FCC with a look that's quite similar to that of the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300.

Android Hardware Rundown: 2012

Android Hardware Rundown: 2012

2012 was quite a huge year for Android. We saw the jump from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and then to version 4.2. Ice Cream Sandwich was a solid operating system, but Jelly Bean made it even better, adding new features like Google Now, better notifications, and even Photo Sphere. However, the software was merely just a vehicle for the hardware to ride on -- the devices themselves were what really shined this year.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 9, 2012

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 9, 2012

Welcome to Thursday folks, just one more work day before arriving at the weekend. Today we had next to nothing about the Apple vs. Samsung trial, except for the news that a similar South Korean trial has been frozen for fear of it becoming too similar to the one being held here in the US. The lack of Apple vs. Samsung news leaves room for far more interesting things, however, like space! The Curiosity rover sent back a color panoramic shot of the surface of Mars along with its first full resolution image, and it's a pretty awesome sight. Sadly, it wasn't all exciting news for NASA today, as the Morpheus moon lander failed during a flight test and exploded into flames. Luckily no one was hurt, but this is still a pretty big setback for the folks at NASA.

ASUS teases dual-boot Android Windows 8 machine for Computex

ASUS teases dual-boot Android Windows 8 machine for Computex

This year at Computex we're likely going to be seeing a dual-booting Android / Windows 8 device coming from ASUS, the company that brought you the dual-device PadFone last year at this same event. The device we'll be looking at will likely have much of the same impact of that device - that device having gone through quite a few revisions before hitting the market in the end with just Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich rather than its original Android 3.0 Honeycomb/Gingerbread combination. What we're expecting this time instead of a phone that plugs into a tablet is a tablet that plugs into a notebook - dual-booting Windows 8 and Android 4.0 might mean a whole new generation of ASUS Transformer Pads for the world by the end of the year.
