WebOS Roadmap leaks showing new TouchPad and more

WebOS Roadmap leaks showing new TouchPad and more

The TouchPad from HP only went live in the last few days. We posted up our review of the TouchPad already and found the hardware lacking, but WebOS was pretty good. I guess HP is already set to refresh that TouchPad hardware, if the leaked roadmap can be believed. According go the roadmap an updated TouchPad is set to land this summer. Specifically the new 64GB TouchPad and a 4G version will land in August.

HP’s Rubinstein addresses TouchPad reviews; Compares webOS to early OS X feedback

HP’s Rubinstein addresses TouchPad reviews; Compares webOS to early OS X feedback

Ex-Palm CEO and current webOS lead at HP, Jon Rubinstein, has fired out an internal email of support to the TouchPad and webOS 3.0 teams at the company, urging them to keep faith in the product and platform despite mediocre day-one reviews. In the letter, leaked to PreCentral, Rubinstein cites early reviews of Mac OS X in which critics labeled it "sluggish" and derided its lack of apps, going on to say that "similarities to our situation are obvious."

HP: Enterprise, not iPad, our TouchPad target

HP: Enterprise, not iPad, our TouchPad target

HP has dismissed criticisms of its TouchPad tablet - which SlashGear reviewed earlier this week - suggesting that incoming webOS updates will smooth out any rough edges and that, rather than taking on the iPad 2 in the consumer market, the company's main target is business users. "We think there’s a better opportunity for us to go after the enterprise space and those consumers that use PCs" HP VP of worldwide developer relations Richard Kerris told The Loop, going on to point out that the tablet segment is still far from saturated.

HP TouchPad teardown finds it is easy to repair

HP TouchPad teardown finds it is easy to repair

We have already put up or review of the HP TouchPad tablet and found it wanting as far as hardware goes. I have also already mentioned that Vince reviewed the WebOS operating system separately and liked it well enough. If you are the sort of geek that likes to see your own flavor of gadget porn with teardowns of the new gadgets this is for you. TechRepublic has posted up its teardown the HP TouchPad for us to gander at.

HP TouchPad official pricing and launch date for UK confirmed

HP TouchPad official pricing and launch date for UK confirmed

Vince reviewed the HP TouchPad today and in the end, he figures the hardware in the tablet is uninspiring. That seems to be a recurring theme with many of the tablets that hit the market recently. I bet a lot of people hoping that HP would knock it out of the park are disappointed today. We also posted up our review of WebOS and found that it was actually pretty good, just hampered by the hardware inside the TouchPad.

HP TouchPad Review

HP TouchPad Review

We've been demanding a tablet running webOS for years now, and it's taken HP's new stewardship of the software to guide just that onto store shelves. Palm's mobile platform always seemed to good to be left solely to smartphones, and the HP TouchPad is the inevitable result. Problem is, the iPad has already made its presence well and truly known, dominating the consumer tablet market, and Android's Honeycomb drive gains OEM support by the week. Can the multitasking charms of webOS 3.0 promise the TouchPad a bright future, or is it simply a case of too late to the party? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

HP Offers $50 TouchPad Mail-In Rebate For Pre And Pixi Owners

HP Offers $50 TouchPad Mail-In Rebate For Pre And Pixi Owners

HP may be trying to make up for the upset they caused when they denied over-the-air updates for customers of older Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus phones. Back in February when the company introduced webOS 3.0, they confirmed that phones older than the Pre 3 could not be upgraded. So now, it appears as a form of apology, HP is offering Pre and Pixi owners a special $50 mail-in rebate on the upcoming HP TouchPad tablet.

HP TouchPad lands for pre-order starting at $500

If you want a tablet but aren't interested in the iPad 2 and don’t want anything with Android on it, one of the few other options that will be coming soon is a WebOS tablet. Whether or not HP TouchPad tablet ends up being worth the money remains to be seen. It is the first tablet to run WebOS and we already know almost all there is to know about the device. This time last week, the TouchPad landed on video giving us an idea of how well it works in the wild.

HP files for trademark on six TouchPad names

HP files for trademark on six TouchPad names

We already know all the details on the HP TouchPad that will launch on July 1 if HP sticks to the launch date. You can bet that HP already has other TouchPad tablets in mind for the market, though the future devices might change based on how well received the first TouchPad is. I'm still not convinced that another major tablet OS will do well on the market with Android and iOS already available and garnering most of the developer support between them.

HP TouchPad gets detailed in new video demos

With the HP TouchPad's release fast approaching, it's not just accessories that HP is putting out there: the company has also released a handful of demo videos putting the tablet through its paces. Covering everything from wireless charging through the notification features of webOS, text-entry and multitasking, to entertainment on the 9.7-inch slate, the clips are possibly the next-best thing to actually having a TouchPad in your own sweaty hands.
