TomTom offers free iPhone 4 adapter for car kit

Back in October of 2009 TomTom launched the car kit for the iPhone to go along with its GPS app. The car kit allowed the user to mount the iPhone to the windshield like a normal GPS unit, offered a better GPS signal, and keeps the iPhone powered up while GPS was being used. Read The Full Story

TomTom have unveiled their new flagship PND, the TomTom GO LIVE 1000, and it's the first from the company to pack a capacitive touchscreen and new, Webkit-based UI. The GO LIVE 1000 comes with a year's subscription to TomTom's LIVE services including HD Traffic - which can show congestion details on highways and smaller roads - via an integrated Vodafone connection, as well as TomTom's IQ Routes for intelligent journey planning that takes into account historic traffic patterns. As our Nexus One unboxing video demonstrated, when it comes to in-box entertainment Google are definitely expecting the smartphone itself to do the talking; included accessories are limited to an Android-branded slip case, an AC adapter and a USB cable. In the run up to the Nexus One’s debut, however, we saw leaks of various add-ons including a Bluetooth car dock and a Bluetooth desk dock; Google, though, made no mention of any Nexus One accessories, third-party or otherwise, at their launch event on Tuesday.

TomTom have confirmed that their Car Kit - the optional accessory to accompany the TomTom iPhone app - will only fully work with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, thanks to a limitation in the TomTom application. The app's limitation means that owners of the first-gen iPhone, together with iPod touch users, won't be able to take advantage of the Car Kit's integrated GPS receiver and speakerphone.
