NHTSA reaffirms Tesla Model S safety rating for good measure

Suggesting that despite the sizable presence of the Tesla Model S in the news as of late for auto accidents, the NHTSA has gone out of their way to reaffirm their “highest safety rating in America” for the vehicle. Letting it be known that the Tesla Model S still has a 5-start safety rating, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration effectively told the world to cool their heels this holiday season. They say the Tesla S is just as safe as the first time they tested it.

Bitcoin Tesla Model S purchase adds legitimacy to currency

Both sides of the Bitcoin war appear to be making giant strides toward winning out - either dismissing the coin entirely, or making it more acceptable to use with big purchases. Today a Lamborghini dealership in Newport Beach has announced that a purchase has been made from them in the form of a brand new Tesla Model S. This electric vehicle was the first in a line of Bitcoin purchases from the dealer: they'll be accepting Bitcoin from this point forward.

Tesla Model S battery pack fire results from debris collision, stocks tumble

Yesterday in a city near Seattle, Washington, a Tesla Model S vehicle caught fire on the side of the road, something that took firefighters awhile to extinguish, their efforts requiring them to cut through the front of the car with a circular saw in order to get adequate access to the battery. The blaze was apparently triggered by a "large metallic object" in the road that hit one of the modules on the battery pack.

Tesla Model S outsells Porsche, Jaguar, Buick in California

It would appear that the electric Tesla Model S has come up in California as a vehicle that's not only striking the technology headlines, but the high-rolling sales market as well. According to a recent California New Car Dealers Association report for the first part of 2013, new-vehicle registrations have marked up the Tesla Model S as a dominator in the luxury car category. With a whopping 4,714 Model S vehicles registered in California with this registrar over the first six months of 2013, Tesla takes the cake from other top-dollar automobiles like the Audi A6 (having registered 1,619 vehicles) and the Lexus GS (at 2,298 units for the first half of 2013) - those two entries represent a 10% share of the Luxury and Sports vehicle segment together while the Tesla Model S kicks out 12% on its own.

Asphalt 8: Airborne launches with NVIDIA SHIELD, Tesla Model S, barrel rolls

The 8th generation of Gameloft's rather successful racing game franchise is out today for both iOS and Android devices in Asphalt 8: Airborne. This game takes another step toward making a truly worthy translation of the 2008 movie Speed Racer to the gaming universe. Though it's not Gameloft saying they're doing so, it certainly appears as if the closest game to the mark (in Asphalt 7) has been outdone by this 2013 Asphalt 8 release.

Tesla Model S options shake-up leaves some angry at costlier cars

Tesla has revamped its Model S electric car line-up, dropping the price of of the Performance model but frustrating would-be owners by considerably increasing some option pricing. The changes, previewed by Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk at the Teslive event last month, could leave some buyers still finalizing their cars paying 8- to 9-percent more, angry forum posts suggest; features that were previously free of charge to select have in some cases become paid-options, while the XM Radio system, before a $950 option, can now only be had as part of a $2,500 system upgrade.
