Dear Apple: Android-loving hacking developer hordes await you

Dear Apple: Android-loving hacking developer hordes await you

Today it's come to our attention that a collection of iPhone users out there believe that Apple might, in their next iteration of iOS, decide to give the average smartphone user Android-level customization options. I couldn't disagree more. Though it's clear that Apple should - in an early adopter's dream universe - need by now to bring some major changes to their mobile operating system iOS, it's just not going to happen. With Apple, change comes only when change is needed, and if you've seen the cash this company makes with each new iteration of its iPhone line and think they're in dire need of any sort of radical change, you're out of your mind.

Windows RT Samsung tablets axed amid low demand in EU

Windows RT Samsung tablets axed amid low demand in EU

It would appear that the Windows RT environment has not quite caught on as fast as Samsung would have liked it to, as more than one report out of Germany this week is saying they've decided to leave the market entirely - or at least in Deutschland. At the moment this will just mean - if substantiated - that the Samsung ATIV Tab RT won't be available through local retailers in Germany. Everywhere else in the world - everywhere else that this device has previously been available, that is - will continue to sell the device as planned.

Sony PlayStation EyePad could bring 3D control to the PS4

Sony is experimenting with a tablet-style PlayStation controller, codenamed the EyePad, which would allow dynamic 3D motion control and virtual buttons for gaming and other purposes, according to a 2012 patent filing. The application, spotted by Gamechup, for "Input device, system and method," describes a "panel, tablet or slab-like device" that would build upon the motion-tracking abilities of the PlayStation Move by creating a virtual interaction area above the slate - using a stereoscopic camera array - within which individual finger, hand, and object movements could be incorporated into gameplay.

Microsoft avoids Surface head-to-head war with Nexus 7

If you thought the Surface Pro was great, but only if Microsoft decided to shave a few inches off and make the tablet more "mini", you may be in luck. Though the Microsoft Surface RT and the Surface Pro are going to be the mainstay units for the Windows 8 and Windows RT operating systems for some time to come, it's been made clear by the company this week that different display sizes are a possibility. At this point it's just a matter of time.

ASUS “ultra-budget” tablet leaked: Nexus 7 redux

With the ASUS-made Google Nexus 7 still selling like hotcakes here several months after its initial debut, a second "bargain basement" device appearing this week shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. This device goes by the code name ME371MG and comes with Intel inside instead of the NVIDIA Tegra 3 that comes with the Nexus 7. This means in this case that you'll be seeing a budget-friendly solution without a doubt, processor first.
