Tumblr has reached another huge milestone today. There are over 100 million blogs hosted across its network, all of which have accumulated a total of 44.6 billion posts. Just last April, Tumblr hit its 50 million blogs milestone, and in one year, it managed to double that amount, showing that the social blogging network has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon.

IDC: Smart connected devices surpassed 1 billion device shipments in 2012

According the the IDC, smart connected devices surpassed 1 billion shipments in 2012, with around 1.2 billion devices being shipped worldwide. Smart connected devices shipments grew 29.1% year-over-year in 2012. Tablet shipments played a huge role in the shipments increase. There was a 78.4% year-over-year growth in tablet shipments last year, with over 128 million tablets being shipped out globally. The surge in tablet shipments is most likely due to the large amount of budget-friendly tablets available, like Amazon's Kindle Fire.

Today it's come to our attention that a collection of iPhone users out there believe that Apple might, in their next iteration of iOS, decide to give the average smartphone user Android-level customization options. I couldn't disagree more. Though it's clear that Apple should - in an early adopter's dream universe - need by now to bring some major changes to their mobile operating system iOS, it's just not going to happen. With Apple, change comes only when change is needed, and if you've seen the cash this company makes with each new iteration of its iPhone line and think they're in dire need of any sort of radical change, you're out of your mind.

It would appear that the Windows RT environment has not quite caught on as fast as Samsung would have liked it to, as more than one report out of Germany this week is saying they've decided to leave the market entirely - or at least in Deutschland. At the moment this will just mean - if substantiated - that the Samsung ATIV Tab RT won't be available through local retailers in Germany. Everywhere else in the world - everywhere else that this device has previously been available, that is - will continue to sell the device as planned.

Samsung plans on doubling its tablet sales this year according to Y.H.Lee, executive VP for Samsung's mobile division. While Samsung hasn't fully disclosed how many tablet sales it made in the year of 2012, the estimated number of sales it has to make in 2013 would equal about 40 million units. Considering Samsung's reputation and power in the mobile industry, it may be able to reach those intended figures.

Sony PlayStation EyePad could bring 3D control to the PS4

Sony is experimenting with a tablet-style PlayStation controller, codenamed the EyePad, which would allow dynamic 3D motion control and virtual buttons for gaming and other purposes, according to a 2012 patent filing. The application, spotted by Gamechup, for "Input device, system and method," describes a "panel, tablet or slab-like device" that would build upon the motion-tracking abilities of the PlayStation Move by creating a virtual interaction area above the slate - using a stereoscopic camera array - within which individual finger, hand, and object movements could be incorporated into gameplay.
