Tablet glee dips: Apple and Samsung battle budget slates

Tablet satisfaction has dropped overall, with low-cost - and underwhelming - slates souring the market despite more predictable performance from the better known brands like Apple and Samsung, new research suggests. J.D. Power's latest tablet ownership study found that, overall, satisfaction has dropped to 835 out of 1,000 in 2014, down 18 points from a year ago. That may well be a side-effect of price playing a greater role than before.

Apple iPhone and iPad sales: 43.7m and 16.4m in Q2 2014

Apple sold 43.7m iPhones in Q2 2014, while iPad sales reached 16.4m, with phone sales rising compared to the previous year, though the same could not be said of the tablet category. Sales of the iPhone decreased 14-percent quarter-on-quarter - though were up 17-percent year-on-year - while revenue from smartphone sales dropped by a fifth to $26bn QoQ but up 14-percent YoY.

Spotify for Windows Phone update to bring Radio & more

Spotify will add personalized Radio support, along with its Browse and Discover features, to its Windows Phone 8 app this Spring, the streaming music company has confirmed. The new app - which will take on not only Pandora but Nokia Radio as bundled on Lumia handsets - will allow listeners to generate a custom music station based on a seed track or artist, as their counterparts on Android and iOS have been able to do for some time.
