Deutsche Telekom approves improved merger offer for MetroPCS

It looks like Deutsche Telekom has revised its merger offer for MetroPCS to make it more appealing. There's only 2 days left before MetroPCS's shareholders decide whether or not the prepaid wireless carrier will be joining forces with T-Mobile USA. According to The Wall Street Journal, Deutsche Telekom approved a much better bid in order to convince MetroPCS shareholders to vote in favor of the merger.

Ex-CEO of T-Mobile USA Philipp Humm to join Vodafone

Yesterday, T-Mobile USA announced that its CEO Philipp Humm had suddenly resigned from the company. At the time, T-Mobile said Humm was leaving to spend more time with his family, but also mentioned that he would be pursuing a career outside of Deutsche Telekom. Reuters now reports that Humm has joined Vodafone to become the chief executive of northern and central Europe starting from October 1st.

T-Mobile CEO Philip Humm issued a memo today, announcing some "difficult decisions" in restructuring the company that will involve more layoffs. The struggling carrier had recently cut 1900 jobs and closed 7 call centers, following its failed AT&T merger. T-Mobile turns down Verizon’s 700MHz spectrum sale

Verizon's proposed purchase of $3.9 billion worth of US wireless spectrum formerly reserved for over-the-air cable broadcasts is not sitting well with competitor T-Mobile, as they've said before. Today T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm made it clear in no uncertain terms that the company wasn't interested in the bands that Verizon proposed to sell as a concession for its acquisition of prime wireless real estate in the AWS spectrum. Humm has already met with the FCC to express his displeasure.
