Original Google Phone revealed

, Apr 25th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week at Google’s court case against Oracle, an original slide deck has been shown with photos of the original Google Phone – well before the first actual Android-based product. The slide deck containing these images shows several mentions of Java integration and is being used against Google on account of Oracle’s claim that they lifted code from them without permission. These decks also showed this week that Google’s original intent all the way back in 2006 was to work with the carriers it would be compatible with SIM cards of all types and would provide hardware with “integrated services,” all this two years before the original G1 was released to T-Mobile.

NPD is dead wrong, Android has nothing to worry about

, Sep 21st 2011 Discuss [36]

Just yesterday a report was released that we reported on which essentially said that Android had better watch its back because Microsoft’s Windows phone 7 was coming. It certainly is true that the release of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango may boost sales a bit, the report, created by research firm NPD’s Connected Intelligence unit, should in no way indicate that interest in Google’s mobile OS is about to wane. On the contrary, ladies and gentlemen, you’ve only to look at the details in the correct way to see that no other system, save Apple’s iOS, has a chance at reaching Android anywhere in the foreseeable future.

LG rejected Android pole position insider reveals

, Aug 18th 2011 Discuss [7]

LG, not HTC, was to be Google’s original partner on the first commercial Android smartphone, according to the latest industry rumors, with Android chief Andy Rubin being forced to turn to the then-little-known Taiwanese firm after LG backed out of the deal. Although negotiations had begun in early 2007 for hardware partners, a source tells the WSJ, first-choice LG opted out midway through the year leaving HTC to pick up the reins. It’s a decision which hindsight suggests did LG no favors, given HTC subsequently rode Android to its current prominence.

HTC calls out Apple for competing in courts, not on products

, Jul 12th 2011 Discuss [48]

HTC has officially commented on yesterday’s news that Apple has added a fresh batch of patent infringement allegations to the ongoing legal action between the two companies, telling SlashGear that it “vehemently denies” all of Apple’s claims. “HTC is dismayed” the company’s general counsel, Grace Lei says, “that Apple has resorted to competition in the courts rather than the market place.” As expected, the second set of claims detail HTC’s more recent devices, including the EVO 4G and HTC Flyer tablet.

Samsung Dart Review [T-Mobile]

, Jul 6th 2011 Discuss [0]

What I’ve got here is one of the three newest members to the mid-range line of phones over on T-Mobile. The smallest and sleekest of them all and that is the Samsung Dart. While reading this review you might want to take into consideration this is a mid-range phone at best, it is meant to compete with other offerings like the LG Optimus or even the Motorola Cliq. This phone might just be the perfect phone for your children as a first smartphone.

T-Mobile Samsung Dart Hands-on and Unboxing

, Jun 30th 2011 Discuss [0]

Okay guys I have the Samsung Dart here to show you all, amazing I know. This little guy is absolutely what you would call a mid-range Android phone, and saying mid-range is being generous. Lately T-Mobile and Samsung have been pushing some decent little mid-range phones out this summer for all those kids and teenagers that are ready for summer and want a new smartphone for graduation or what not. Most have been pretty decent but this is the lower end of the bunch that is for sure. Read The Full Story

Windows Phone: The Next Six Months

, Apr 21st 2011 Discuss [23]

Today, Windows Phone 7 turned six. Six months, that is, counted from the October 21 2010 release of the first batch of Windows Phone handsets. It’s a big day for the platform, too; not only a retail milestone, but an early inking of the deal between Microsoft and Nokia which will see the Finnish phone giant bet its smartphone fortunes. So, where next for Windows Phone, and will Nokia’s input – and the “billions of dollars” Microsoft will be pushing its way – help it gain all-important market share?

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 15 2011

, Apr 10th 2011 Discuss [0]

Welcome to another edition of the SlashGear Week in Review! Early Monday I ran across a cool printer hack that turns your ink jet into a printer that prints with invisible ink. The ink is lemon juice and the person that needs to read the invisible ink sprays it with an iodine solution to make the letters viewable. The commercial for the Touchwood SH-08C from DoCoMo has turned up on YouTube. The commercial uses a big handmade wooden ramp with xylophone keys that play classical music when a ball rolls down the ramp. Read The Full Story
