Sprint: 15 LTE phones, tablets & modems by end of 2012

Sprint has promised that its first dual-mode CDMA/LTE phones will reach the market in the first half of 2012, with the expectation of 15 LTE-capable phones, tablets and data cards/modems/mobile hotspots on sale by the end of next year. The carrier confirmed its LTE plans earlier today, with the new devices set to run on a network Sprint expects to have operational in 2012, PC Mag's Sascha Segan reports.

Neither Sprint 3G or 4G is inside the iPad, and - unlike AT&T and Verizon - the carrier doesn't even sell the Apple tablet in its stores, but that doesn't stop CEO Dan Hesse from being mighty thankful to the slate all the same.  According to Hesse, brisk sales of the carrier's 3G/4G Overdrive mobile hotspot are for the large part down to WiFi-only iPad users wanting to get online via Sprint's CDMA/WiMAX network.  However, he declined to talk to GigaOm about the iPhone and potential relationships with Apple.

Sprint 4G spreads: 48 areas now with WiMAX

We already know that Sprint are looking to 4G to salve their fortunes, and so news that the WiMAX network is spreading can only be a good thing for investors and for data-hungry users.  Fresh to feel the warm touch of 4G on their skin are Modesto and Stockton, California; Jacksonville, Florida, Wilmington, Delaware; and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

That now makes forty-eight metropolitan areas with WiMAX coverage - the full list is in the press release below - and Sprint reckon subscribers will see up to ten-times the performance of a regular 3G connection.

4G WiMAX spreads in preparation for HTC EVO 4G debut

4G is spreading, and Sprint/Clearwire have both announced new WiMAX coverage in Central Pennsylvania.  The extended network - which promises data speeds of 3-6mbps - now covers Harrisburg, Reading, Lancaster and York, and service will be available both from Sprint and Clearwire.  That's good news if you live there and have been eyeing the upcoming Sprint HTC EVO 4G, the WiMAX-toting Android smartphone due later this year.

Sprint 4G Case for iPad Available at Best Buy

Apparently, Sprint wants you to know that the iPad works with their 3G/4G Overdrive mobile hotspot. And, why should they stop at the iPhone, right? And, while commercials are all well and good, the next logical step is obviously creating an accessory for your Overdrive mobile hotspot, and Apple's iPad. We're wondering if AT&T, the carrier that's supporting the 3G iPad, is going to start showing this kind of support for the tablet, or if Sprint will continue to lead the way.
