Sprint has promised that its first dual-mode CDMA/LTE phones will reach the market in the first half of 2012, with the expectation of 15 LTE-capable phones, tablets and data cards/modems/mobile hotspots on sale by the end of next year. Neither Sprint 3G or 4G is inside the iPad, and - unlike AT&T and Verizon - the carrier doesn't even sell the Apple tablet in its stores, but that doesn't stop CEO Dan Hesse from being mighty thankful to the slate all the same. According to Hesse, brisk sales of the carrier's 3G/4G Overdrive mobile hotspot are for the large part down to WiFi-only iPad users wanting to get online via Sprint's CDMA/WiMAX network. US WiMAX provider Clearwire has outed its latest 4G modems and personal wireless hotspots, promising broadband-like speeds in areas with suitable 4G service. The new CLEAR 4G and CLEAR 4G+ personal WiFi hotspots (the latter being a rebadge of the Sprint Overdrive) each pull in a WiMAX signal and share it with up to eight nearby devices (the 4G+ also works with 3G connections). Headed to UK network Three in early July 2010, the E585 can share a 3G connection with up to five WiFi clients - such as your iPad, for instance - with the monochrome OLED display showing network and battery status together with how much mobile data has been used.
