Sony’s next Xperia tablet rumored for 4K, 6GB RAM

Sony’s next Xperia tablet rumored for 4K, 6GB RAM

Sony is no stranger to CES, and tends to make the event their forum for announcing new products. Last year, we saw a bevy of awesome new cameras and a still-in-progress SmartBand tracker. Another thing Sony does well is high-end devices and products. The latest rumor has Sony going absolutely off on tablets, bringing a massive screen capable of 4K resolution. The rumored spec sheet is equally insane, boasting more RAM than you’ve ever heard of on a mobile device.

If you're marketing extremely waterproof devices, what would be the best way to get that point across? Well, why not put a store underwater! As if taking a page from Apple's glass retail store in New York, Sony put its concept store four meters under the sea in Dubai. Of course, you won't be getting there on your own and you'll to undergo diving lessons before you are accompanied by trained drivers to the store.

Sony Android TVs to come in February 2015

Android TV, the successor of the somewhat stillborn Google TV, is barely a few months in the market, and yet some true believers are already lining up to take the platform under their wings. One of those is Sony, who courageously announced (or Google announced for them) that its entire HD and 4K Smart TV lineup next year will have Android TV in tow. But what does that exactly mean for the user experience? Some Sony insiders reveals some hints on how Sony's Android TVs will behave when they arrive.

Xperia Z3V vs Z3 Camera battle: the Quality Drop

The following is a brief exploration of the back-facing cameras on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3V. While the hardware is supposed to be essentially identical in this area, we know for a fact that we're working with slightly different builds in the software department. The Z3V is Verizon's unique version of the Xperia Z3 from Sony, bringing a slightly thicker build and the built-in ability to wirelessly charge its battery. The Z3 we have is T-Mobile's model, the same model you'll find off-contract straight from Sony.

Google lists all of your devices, location included

This week Google is doubling down on security, making it easy for you to get an idea of how many devices you've used with Google services, showing you these devices in one simple list. For a user like myself, this list is massive. Even just going back to the tail end of 2013, Google lists 43 devices I've logged in on. Not just devices I've ever logged in on, but devices I'm STILL logged in on. This means I really, truly need to be better at remembering to log out.

Sony’s own Backup & Restore app hacked, taken over

When you have a smartphone, you’d like to trust that the apps coming straight form the manufacturer of that phone are secure. More to the point, you’d probably safely assume any software designed to access your information stored in your phone would be something that couldn’t be compromised in any way. A new report suggests Sony’s own backup and restore app has been hacked, but that’s not even the most sensational news. Hackers have taken over the app entirely, even claiming ownership in Google Play.

Sony’s new stacked CMOS sensor for smartphones: HDR everywhere

Today, Sony is unveiling a new stacked sensor that could greatly improve smartphone photography as we know it. Though it has the same pixel count as the Xperia Z3’s EXMOR sensor, this new hardware makes better use of those pixels. The stacked sensor isn’t new, but it’s the first time Sony is bringing it to a mobile platform.

Sony IMX230 brings mirrorless camera features to phones

Sony has just announced a new EXMOR RS sensor and it is poised to take smartphone photography to the next level. Although the new IMX230 has almost the same effective 21 megapixel count as the camera found on, say, the Xperia Z3, this new sensor uses a stacked design that allows it to cram high-end camera functionality in a 1/2.4 size CMOS sensor. Such functionality include an image plane phase detection autofocus system and HDR imaging not just for videos but for still photos as well.
