Xperia Z5 video leak confirms 4K display

Xperia Z5 video leak confirms 4K display

Well, here's one thing Sony fans might be looking forward to this week. Or not. Perhaps realizing how far behind they are at the smartphone game, Sony might finally be upgrading its smartphone displays. But wait just a second! It might actually be doing more than that. It might be pushing he envelope to almost ridiculous levels, outing what is probably the world's first 4K smartphone. That is, if any of these leaks are true and not just wishful thinking for a smartphone brand that is slowly losing believers.

Metal Gear Solid V custom PS3 shows true depth of obsession

Metal Gear Solid V custom PS3 shows true depth of obsession

This week we're not the only ones getting pumped up about the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. One fan has gone the extra mile to customize their PlayStation 3 for the release. While we're a bit more partial to the shape of the PlayStation 4 at this point, the customization of this PS3 unit makes us wish we'd had the time to make such a beauty a reality. Sprayed and painted, brushed and polished, this is the coolest (unofficial, one of a kind, believe it or not) MSGV:TPP PS3.

Xperia Z5 render leak hints “greater focus” is 23MP camera

Xperia Z5 render leak hints “greater focus” is 23MP camera

When it comes to Sony's IFA 2015 event in a few days, you might be in either of two camps (not counting those who don't care). Either you're waiting with interest to see if the Japanese OEM has anything left to offer the mobile world, or you're no longer interested because you think it doesn't have a prayer. If this leak of press render images is to be taken at face value, the latter camp may have reason for their indifference, revealing nothing notable other than a higher camera sensor.

Sony teases an Xperia with greater focus, not a greater Xperia

Sony teases an Xperia with greater focus, not a greater Xperia

It's IFA time soon, and naturally, almost anyone and everyone in the tech industry are ready to make a splash. Including Sony. But if you were perhaps hoping for some redeeming smartphone, it might be time to rein in those expectations. Sony's UK Twitter account just teased something for its pre-IFA 2015 event, hinting at a smarpthone with a better focus, presumably a better camera. It is, however, sadly silent on whether we can also expect a better Xperia smartphone to go along with that.

Sony SmartBand 2 is durable, waterproof, and arrives next month

Sony has introduced its new SmartBand 2 wearable. This wristband is designed to track fitness and activity metrics while also feeding the most pertinent data from the paired smartphone. The newest SmartBand is able to offer up email and social notifications from a paired smartphone, call info, “visual feedback” delivered via colored LEDs, and more. Says Sony, the SmartBand 2 also features an “advanced heart rate sensor”, and offers up insights on things like the wearer’s stress level and sleep patterns.

Xperia Z5 Plus tipped to get 4K display

Xperia Z5 Plus tipped to get 4K display

It's more than a bit odd to me that the resolution of many tablets and smartphones is higher than the resolution that many of us enjoy on our computers. Word is circulating that Sony Mobile might be among the first smartphone makers in the world to launch a smartphone that rocks a 4K UHD display. The smartphone rumored to be getting that 4K screen is the Xperia X5 Plus.

Sony Xperia M5, C5 Ultra puts the focus on photos

Sony Xperia M5, C5 Ultra puts the focus on photos

True enough, Sony did have something in store today, but sadly, it's not a better Xperia flagship. Then again, for some people, these two smartphones might very well be, especially since the OEM doesn't seem to budge away from 1080p screens anyway. But what really makes the Xperia C5 Ultra phablet and the somewhat higher end Xperia M5 special is their cameras. Or, as you might have guessed it, their front cameras, with both smartphones sporting 13 megapixel front facing shooters for the ultimate selfie.

Sony might be sticking with Snapdragon 810 for Xperia Z5

Sony might be sticking with Snapdragon 810 for Xperia Z5

Qualcomm might have found a staunch and loyal friend in Sony. If it hasn't yet, it should. Despite all the flak it received precisely because of the Snapdragon 810 processor, it seems that Sony isn't about to jump ship. At least not for some upcoming smartphones. User Agent profiles of two device lines, particularly a certain E6603 and E5803, believed to be the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact respectively, show evidence that those two will run on the almost ill-fated chip, which is bound not to sit well with those hoping for better Sony flagship before the year ends.

Sony grapples for relevance with Concept for Android thrust

Sony grapples for relevance with Concept for Android thrust

Despite a few rough starts, and still ongoing rough patches, Sony is committed to the mobile industry, particularly smartphones. But, based on mobile business head Hiroki Totoki's statements, its vision won't revolve primarily around the rat race that is smartphone hardware. Instead, it wants to double down on the user experience, which, in this context, practically means the Android experience. Now Sony is taking the first step towards that goal by starting what it calls its Concept for Android Initiative in Sweden to tackle exactly that problem.
