Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play tipped as PlayStation phone as SE go on domain spree

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play tipped as PlayStation phone as SE go on domain spree

The discovery of a number of "xperiaplay" domain registrations by a Swedish PR company that counts Sony Ericsson among its clients has led to suggestions that the upcoming PlayStation Android smartphone will launch as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play. The gaming handset has been spotted in the wild on numerous occasions, complete with PlayStation-style control pad buttons, but so far its branding has been unclear. The hunt for the domains was prompted by PocketNow's discovery of an "XPERIA PLAY" trademark filing.

Sony might be sticking with Snapdragon 810 for Xperia Z5

Sony might be sticking with Snapdragon 810 for Xperia Z5

Qualcomm might have found a staunch and loyal friend in Sony. If it hasn't yet, it should. Despite all the flak it received precisely because of the Snapdragon 810 processor, it seems that Sony isn't about to jump ship. At least not for some upcoming smartphones. User Agent profiles of two device lines, particularly a certain E6603 and E5803, believed to be the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact respectively, show evidence that those two will run on the almost ill-fated chip, which is bound not to sit well with those hoping for better Sony flagship before the year ends.

Sony grapples for relevance with Concept for Android thrust

Sony grapples for relevance with Concept for Android thrust

Despite a few rough starts, and still ongoing rough patches, Sony is committed to the mobile industry, particularly smartphones. But, based on mobile business head Hiroki Totoki's statements, its vision won't revolve primarily around the rat race that is smartphone hardware. Instead, it wants to double down on the user experience, which, in this context, practically means the Android experience. Now Sony is taking the first step towards that goal by starting what it calls its Concept for Android Initiative in Sweden to tackle exactly that problem.

Sony rolls out Android 5.1.1 for Xperia Z3, Z2 devices

Xperia Z3+ owner resorts to kitchen foil to fight heat

Xperia Z3+ owner resorts to kitchen foil to fight heat

This DIY fix serves as a testament to the extent users will go through to desperately fix a significantly broken device. It also probably hints at how much trouble the Xperia Z3+, a.k.a. Xperia Z4 in Japan, is giving its users. And some users just can't take the heat anymore. One in particular, ingeniously applied a bit of physics and chemistry to help dissipate the heat that the smartphone is generating using nothing but common kitchen foil. And apparently, he wasn't the only one who has thought of that solution.

Sony Xperia phones now capable of Twitch game streaming

Live-streaming footage of video games has become a staple feature across the current generation of game console and PCs, thanks to the popularity of the Twitch service. However, one platform gameplay streaming and broadcasting hasn't yet become common on is mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Well, that could be changing sooner than expected, as Sony has partnered with Twitch to release a new Android app that lets users broadcast their gaming from select Xperia devices.

Sony isn’t giving up on mobile ever, says mobile chief

Sony isn’t giving up on mobile ever, says mobile chief

"Famous last words", as some often say. Hiroki Totoki, who has been Sony Mobile's head for little over than six months, boldly claimed that the company will never sell or exit its mobile business, despite prophecies of doom early this year. That might not be a surprising claim, considering what business Totoki is leading, but it is something that needs more than just words to inspire confidence. The mobile CEO asks for a bit of patience this year and to look forward to a huge turnaround by 2016 instead.
