Sony Xperia Z promotional video leaks [UPDATE: We have hands-on!]

On December 21, a leak surfaced stating that the Sony "Yuga" is officially named the Xperia Z, and now more information on the handset has appeared. According to a leaked promotional video, the Xperia Z has a "skeleton frame" and is water/dust resistant. In addition, it has an Exmor RS image sensor and can take images and record video in HDR.

Sony Xperia sola introduces Floating Touch navigation

Sony has launched its latest Android smartphone, the Xperia sola, a 3.7-inch handset with a 1GHz NovaThor dualcore chipset, NFC and a 5-megapixel, 720p HD capable camera. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade tipped for this summer, the Xperia sola uses Sony's Reality Display screen technology with the firm's Mobile BRAVIA Engine powering the 854 x 480 LCD TFT panel, and has quadband UMTS/WCDMA and 8GB of internal storage. It also debuts Sony's "floating touch" navigation system.

Sony Ericsson Xperia ion hands-on

We've gotten the opportunity this week to first bear witness to AT&T's real dropping of the hammer on the LTE world with six new devices, then one by one we've been allowed to get up close and personal with them - here with the Sony Xperia ion. This device is Sony Ericsson's first LTE enabled device and has no less than one massively impressive 12-megapixel camera. The back facing camera is also able to film 1080p video, while the front-facing camera is capable of 720p video. This device is both sleek and lovely.

Sony Ericsson blame XPERIA Arc 2.4 leaks on “misconfiguration”

Sony Ericsson has described screenshots showing the XPERIA Arc apparently running Android 2.4 as "a misconfiguration in some samples", as well as confirming that the 4.2-inch smartphone runs Qualcomm's 1GHz MSM8255 processor paired with Adreno 205 graphics. According to the company's official blog, the higher version numbers - which some suggested was indication Sony Ericsson would launch the Arc with a version of Android higher than Gingerbread on the Nexus S - are "nothing to get too excited about."

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play tipped as PlayStation phone as SE go on domain spree

The discovery of a number of "xperiaplay" domain registrations by a Swedish PR company that counts Sony Ericsson among its clients has led to suggestions that the upcoming PlayStation Android smartphone will launch as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play. The gaming handset has been spotted in the wild on numerous occasions, complete with PlayStation-style control pad buttons, but so far its branding has been unclear. The hunt for the domains was prompted by PocketNow's discovery of an "XPERIA PLAY" trademark filing.

Sony teases an Xperia with greater focus, not a greater Xperia

It's IFA time soon, and naturally, almost anyone and everyone in the tech industry are ready to make a splash. Including Sony. But if you were perhaps hoping for some redeeming smartphone, it might be time to rein in those expectations. Sony's UK Twitter account just teased something for its pre-IFA 2015 event, hinting at a smarpthone with a better focus, presumably a better camera. It is, however, sadly silent on whether we can also expect a better Xperia smartphone to go along with that.

Sony has introduced its new SmartBand 2 wearable. This wristband is designed to track fitness and activity metrics while also feeding the most pertinent data from the paired smartphone. The newest SmartBand is able to offer up email and social notifications from a paired smartphone, call info, “visual feedback” delivered via colored LEDs, and more. Says Sony, the SmartBand 2 also features an “advanced heart rate sensor”, and offers up insights on things like the wearer’s stress level and sleep patterns.

Sony debuts MGS5-themed Xperia, Walkman devices for Japan

The September release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rapidly approaching, but if the limited edition MGS5 PlayStation 4 console isn't enough for you, Sony's just announced more game-related hardware goodies for the Japanese market. The lineup of Sony devices includes the Xperia J1 Compact smartphone, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Walkman A16, and the Walkman ZX2, all designed with Phantom Pain logos engraved on the hardware, and custom wallpapers and sound effects pre-installed.
