The next generation of Vaio S-series laptops from Sony has arrived and we’re taking a look the the most basic model here today – the 13.3-inch with Intel Core i5 processor inside, matte black. This ultraportable laptop comes with the standard f-series keyboard, a switch which allows you to switch between Discreet graphics and AMD, the ability to keep working as long as possible with the former option or to be ultra productive with apps such as Photoshop with the latter. Intel: Fiber Optic Thunderbolt is still “way out”

Intel has admitted that fiber optic versions of its Thunderbolt high-speed connectivity standard could still take years to arrive, leaving existing copper implementations the standard for some time to come. Intel Architecture Group general manager Dadi Perlmutter told PC World that it was a combination of pricing and current speeds being sufficient, suggesting that "at the end of the day it's all about how much speed people need versus how much they would be willing to pay." Sony has whipped out a new line of notebook computers that have all sorts of features that folks wanting a thin and portable notebook will appreciate. The new machines are the Vaio S series and the series has a 15.5-inch LCD making them interesting to those needing more space than the typical ultraportable offers. Sony has unveiled its latest performance ultraportable, the Sony VAIO Z Series, tipping the scales at under 1.2kg but still offering - thanks to a docking station that uses the same Intel Thunderbolt connection technology as Apple recently adopted - solid graphics performance with an external video card.
