Samsung Series 7 Chronos hands-on

, Sep 3rd 2011 Discuss [10]

Samsung’s recent line-up of notebooks has been impressing with its combination of slick metal chassis, solid performance and copious style, and the Samsung Series 7 Chronos announced here at IFA 2011 is little different. Using a so-called “Superior LCD” panel technology, Samsung has also managed to squeeze in bigger displays than you’d expect; the design those panels fit into, however, is decidedly more Apple-esque at first and second glance than earlier models. Homage, inspired or just plain pilfered; head on past the cut to see more.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 41 2009

, Oct 10th 2009 Discuss [0]

After spending most of Friday curled in a ball twitching and drooling after losing power and Internet access for almost 12 hours, I am glad to be back online and in the 21st century again. Just in time to hunker down and dose myself with a nice helping of week in review for your perusal. Chris reviewed the GSM Palm Pre and found the camera wasn't as good as some of its peers but found plenty to like in the end. The webOS operating system stands apart from rival OS'. Buffalo announced the HD-HU3 USB 3.0 drive and controller that will be shipping in Japan this month. The drive isn’t even that expensive; I hope it comes to America too. Read The Full Story

Sony axe VAIO TT premium ultraportable: casualty of netbooks?

, Aug 20th 2009 Discuss [0]

Back when we reviewed the Sony VAIO TT in November last year, we wondered out loud whether there was still a place for high-end ultraportables in a world obsessed with netbooks.  Unfortunately it looks like Sony may be wondering the same thing; according to their US team, the VAIO TT has been discontinued Read The Full Story

HP Mini 5101 netbook in the wild

, Aug 4th 2009 Discuss [3]

It may not have Pine Trail, NVIDIA Ion or, frankly, anything out of the ordinary from netbooks we've seen for the past six months or longer, but you can certainly say that HP's Mini 5101 has some reasonable style.  Reminiscent of Sony's VAIO TZ, but a whole lot cheaper, the Mini 5101 has landed on jkOnTheRun's kitchen counter for an impromptu live photo session. Sony Japan's 'VAIO New Mobile' teaser campaign - otherwise known as "this is the netbook we're announcing at CES 2009" - has added two new images for us to obsess over.  Both detail the upcoming netbook's keyboard, which appears to bear a strong resemblance to that on the VAIO TT/TZ only with the addition of a trackpoint control stub. Sony VAIO TT Review

, Nov 6th 2008 Discuss [1]

In a world of $250 netbooks and credit crunch, is there a place for a high-end ultraportable that, in its peak configuration, costs $4,345?  That’s the question Sony – and plenty of others – are asking about the new Vaio TT, its latest luxury notebook.  A carbon fiber chassis, WWAN, Blu-ray and RAID options all draw upon the latest technology available, but have they over estimated the market?  SlashGear pulled on a pair of museum-standard gloves, buffed the test bench to a dull sheen, and prepared to find out.

While there’s no shortage of variety in the netbook market, one of the most commonly recommended – and certainly most commonly searched for here on SlashGear – is the Acer Aspire One.  With a slick casing, brand name recognition and relatively large degree of flexibility in specifications, even with new rivals from Dell and others, Acer is holding its own.  We’ve had the Aspire One in for the past fortnight to put it through its paces; check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.
