Target axes non-iPad tablets until holidays

If you head to a Target store anytime between now and somewhere around the end of October, you're going to have a tough time finding yourself a tablet that isn't also an iPad. SlashGear has learned from several tipsters (including two Target employees) that they'll not be carrying any tablet computers, other than the iPad, until late in the year, much closer to the year-end holiday season. This of course includes the ill-fated Kindle Fire which you'll no longer find online and is being blown-out on the end-caps at Target stores nationwide.

Nintendo prepping Wii U eBook store and courting iOS devs says source

Nintendo is reportedly not only preparing an app store for the Wii U, the company's next-gen console scheduled for launch this year, but an ebook platform for distributing game guides, digital magazines and more. The company has already approached publishers and developers about the Wii U ereader store, ForgetTheBox's source claims, and is considering offering its back-catalog of out of print "Players Guides" for titles like Super Mario World free to download to Wii U gamers.

Tablets: an Android 2011 Retrospective

When the year 2011 is looked back upon by the Google historians, they'll mark it as the first time they officially made an effort to bring the Android platform to devices with displays larger than handheld smartphones - what we saw, as a result, was everything from the XOOM to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The folks at Google created a version of their mobile operating system Android titled Honeycomb and numbered version 3.0. This operating system began its life in the wild on the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch tablet that by the end of the year would be replaced by the XYBOARD, a tablet which physically in weight and thickness to the iPad 2 - the dominant force in the tablet space throughout the vast majority of this past year.

Wii U launch no time soon: Hardware finalizing June 2012

Nintendo has warned that gamers shouldn't expect to see the Wii U any time soon, with president Satoru Iwata confirming that the final version of the next-gen console isn't expected to go on show until E3 in June next year. "Based on the bitter experiences we have had with the Nintendo 3DS, we are making every effort to prepare so that the Wii U will not stumble during its launch" Iwata said following the company's dreary last-quarter financial results.
