The latest version of Android is now landing on Sony's Tablet S. Version 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, is now being rolled out to device owners in the US. Ice Cream Sandwich is one of the biggest updates to Android yet, and includes such features as scanning your face to unlock the phone, a much more robust speech-to-text software program, and an entire platform of data sharing that focuses on Near Field Communication (NFC). We recently put up a review of the Sony Tablet P and lamented that Honeycomb needed to be ditched in favor of Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony has announced that next month owners of its Tablet S and Tablet P will be getting the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Nintendo is reportedly not only preparing an app store for the Wii U, the company's next-gen console scheduled for launch this year, but an ebook platform for distributing game guides, digital magazines and more. The company has already approached publishers and developers about the Wii U ereader store, ForgetTheBox's source claims, and is considering offering its back-catalog of out of print "Players Guides" for titles like Super Mario World free to download to Wii U gamers. When the year 2011 is looked back upon by the Google historians, they’ll mark it as the first time they officially made an effort to bring the Android platform to devices with displays larger than handheld smartphones – what we saw, as a result, was everything from the XOOM to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The folks at Google created a version of their mobile operating system Android titled Honeycomb and numbered version 3.0. This operating system began its life in the wild on the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch tablet that by the end of the year would be replaced by the XYBOARD, a tablet which physically in weight and thickness to the iPad 2 – the dominant force in the tablet space throughout the vast majority of this past year.

Nintendo has warned that gamers shouldn't expect to see the Wii U any time soon, with president Satoru Iwata confirming that the final version of the next-gen console isn't expected to go on show until E3 in June next year. Sony may finally be loosening up its grip on the PlayStation suite platform. Currently, the platform is only available to Sony-branded Android devices, including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P.
