Sony may finally be loosening up its grip on the PlayStation suite platform. Currently, the platform is only available to Sony-branded Android devices, including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P. In an interview at the AsiaD conference, Sony Computer Entertainment Chairman Kaz Hirai confirmed that the company was working on having the platform available on other non-Sony devices.

Sony Tablet S now ready for pre-orders, shipping September 16

The Sony's first Android tablet, now officially called the Tablet S, is ready for pre-orders. The Tablet S is available on Sony's own site and on Amazon, listed at $499.99 for the 16GB model and $599.99 for the 32GB model with a promised ship date of September 16. The device is also available on Best Buy and Future Shop in Canada at the same pricing, but with a later September 23 ship date.

The new Sony Entertainment Network is now online following the company's announcement at IFA 2011 that all of its music, video, and gaming offerings will now be under one big umbrella. That umbrella, Sony Entertainment Network or SEN, will encompass both the Qriocity music and video services as well as the PlayStation Network.
