LulzSec hackers swipe source code from Sony websites and post it online

Sony has taken a beating at the hands of hackers over the last few months. The biggest of all the hacks and the one that cost Sony the most pride and money was the hack of the PSN that resulted in the loss of details on many of the user accounts for the PSN including emails and other personal info. Sony is just now getting the network back online fully and trying to soothe angered users with free games. The hacks are still coming though with other Sony sites falling victim to hackers.

Nintendo admits servers hacked but no personal data stolen

Nintendo has confirmed that its US servers have been hacked, although unlike Sony's recent PlayStation Network woes, no company or customer information was extracted. Rumors of the infringement surfaced when the "Lulzsec" hacker group released what was claimed to be Nintendo's server configuration file, pulled from one of the company's US servers; Nintendo confirmed to the WSJ that while there had been a breach, it contained no personal data.

Sony: PSN back online on Friday (but Japan & others miss out)

Sony will miss its May 31 self-imposed deadline for full restoration of the PlayStation Network, instead promising to have all services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia - excluding Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea - active once more by the end of the week. The embarrassing, ongoing delay in Sony's home country is apparently due to more stringent information security mandates from the Japanese government; Sony has declined to comment on delays in other parts of Asia.

Sony PSN users can now sign up for identity theft protection offer

Users of the Sony PlayStation Network have had a bad month or so now. First, a hack took the system offline. Later we learned that just about all the data users put into their accounts had been stolen, and then when Sony put up a way for users to change passwords to secure their accounts again the method used was flawed and open to hacks. Sony announced as a way to soothe the angry PSN users that it would be offering free games and free identity protection for users.

It even revealed that backlogged games would start launching on the same day the store reopened. Unfortunately, that's today and it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
