SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 3, 2012

Welcome to the weekend, everyone! We're about ready to dive into the weekend ourselves, but not before we deliver the evening wrap-up. As with every other day this week, today gave us some more news about Apple's patent trial with Samsung, with Judge Lucy Koh interviewing each and every one of the jurors to make sure they weren't being swayed by any outside influences. Apple's senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller took the stand today to convince the jury that the iPhone's design was unique, while the company's legal counsel did its best to make sure that Samsung didn't share any iPhone sales numbers. Judge Koh also said that Apple wasn't allowed to keep its customer survey results a secret, so Samsung did get a bit of news that could help it out as the trial progresses.

JVC GX-PX1 hybrid gets hands-on play: 60fps stills & 36Mbps 1080p

JVC only had a concept of the GX-PX1 hybrid camera/camcorder back at CES 2011, so we spent more time with the 3D-capable GS-TD1 instead, but it seems the company's engineers have been busy. Impress grabbed some hands-on time with the latest version, which looks a little like a blend of Sony's NEX interchangeable lens cameras and JVC's regular camcorders, and it's shaping up to be an interesting model indeed.

Canon IXUS 300 HS digicam: 10MP with 720p HD & HDMI [Update: US launch too]

If we're blunt, Canon's new IXUS 300 HS point-and-shoot doesn't quite have the appeal of Sony's new NEX pair, but it promises to be a whole lot more affordable (and approachable for mainstream users) than the interchangeable lens models.  The IXUS 300 HS packs a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 3.8x optical zoom, and can capture 720p HD footage or 240fps super-slow-motion video.

Update: Canon USA have announced the same camera, only as the Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH.  It'll arrive in the US at the end of May 2010, priced at $349.99.
