Sony QX Lens Cameras work without smartphone aid

Sony QX Lens Cameras work without smartphone aid

Though we've seen the Sony "Lens Camera" devices appear connected to smartphones before, today a set of press photos suggests that the user might be able to use these devices without a companion smart unit at all. Where before we'd assumed that it was the smartphone - or tablet - that allowed a Sony Lens Camera to be controlled, today a set of photos that very much appear to be press-quality (aka real from Sony, more than likely) show a couple of users working with these devices without being physically attached to the smartphone in hand.

Sony Xperia Honami appears amid “Lens Cameras”

Several press images have appeared this afternoon with three of Sony's upcoming photo-friendly products in plain view, the first of them being the Sony Xperia Honami. This fabled phablet-sized iteration of the Sony Xperia Z has been tipped to be working with a 5-inch AH-IPS display with 1080 x 1920 pixels across its front, and it's popping up here with a new Sony "Lens Camera", as leaked by Sony Alpha Rumors, along its back. As you'll see plainly, this showing has Honami's 20-megapixel camera sitting aside this bigger device, more than likely doing not a thing while the Lens Camera aims and fires.

Sony HFR Comfort-3D single-lens 240fps camera video demo

Sony toted along their HFR Comfort-3D video camera to CEATEC, and SlashGear Japan stopped by to check out the single-lens 240fps behemoth.  Intended for recording sports events in glorious 3D, the HFR Comfort-3D has a clever half-mirror system that allows it to shoot both separate left/right eye information for those with suitable polarized glasses, as well as a 2D picture for those without.

Sony announces their anti-Google Glass wearable

Sony announces their anti-Google Glass wearable

Sony is pretty bullish about putting a display in front of your eyes. Phones and smartwatches are already pretty well-heeled in their lineup, but incoming projects like Morpheus take you into the world of virtual reality. Now, Sony is introducing “an attachable Single-Lens Display Module”, which amounts to Google Glass you can remove. It’s also quite a bit bulkier than Glass, but offers just about the same functionality. Sony’s aim is true, though; rather than a daily wear consumer product, this is (currently) geared toward sports.
