Sharp’s new 32-inch screens possibly for Apple iTV

Sharp’s new 32-inch screens possibly for Apple iTV

Sharp announced today that it began production of 32-inch HI-DPI LCD panels last month at its Kameyama Plant No. 2, which has long been manufacturing advanced LCDs for TVs. These pixel-dense high-performance displays are the world's first to incorporate IGZO oxide semiconductors and could be used for Apple's much rumored iTV, if perhaps over-enthusiastic analysts are to be believed.

Apple iTV pushed back as IGZO panels unready for shipment

Apple iTV pushed back as IGZO panels unready for shipment

It appears that both Samsung and LG are both keeping their panels to themselves this season as the Smart TV market fires up and Apple sets its sights on IGZO. Sources are speaking to the tune of Sharp being the next on the list for Apple to be looking to for Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide displays for their upcoming iTV production line. Meanwhile the competition in LG and Samsung, who've both provided parts to Apple in the past, are tipped to be holding back in this case to keep their HD Smart TVs strong in and of themselves.

The new HTC One specs tipped for Butterfly S next-gen

Now that we’re just weeks away from the launch of the all new HTC One, it’s become apparent that HTC might continue their spread of the goodness to other high-end devices. One of those may very well be another HTC Butterfly S - also known as the DROID DNA here in the USA. Tips this week suggest that the machine code-named HTC M8 (successor to the HTC One) could have specifications that move outward to more than just the HTC Desire 816.

Dear Apple, here’s what I want from the new Thunderbolt Display

Dear Apple, here’s what I want from the new Thunderbolt Display

The Apple Thunderbolt Display is long overdue a makeover. Revealed in July 2011, the 27-inch monitor has watched generations of MacBook come and go - and, until this year at least, the Mac Pro stagnate with no compatibility whatsoever - and, despite the iMac aesthetic it originally echoed being significantly upgraded last October, still languishes with its original design. Sometimes, with Apple, you have to be patient. The company has, for the most part, a yearly refresh cycle, but the Thunderbolt Display is (in tech terms) old. Still, that arguably just gives Apple the chance to do something particularly special with the new Thunderbolt Display - so here's my wish list.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: November 28, 2012

Welcome to Wednesday evening everyone, just two more work days to go and then we're at the weekend again. Today we found out that new Nexus 4 orders won't ship for another 4-5 weeks, and that's if you're ordering the 16GB model - those who order the 8GB model might be waiting as long as two months. Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer said that Windows Phone sales these days are four times greater than they were in autumn 2011, which is definitely a good sign, while we learned that RIM has lost a big patent case against Nokia in Sweden.

SlashGear Morning Wrap-up: October 18th, 2012

This morning it's all about the sales of the Nokia devices, with 2.9 million Windows Phones shipped thus far, North American phone sales slashed in half in the third quarter, and Q4 set up for less than excellent results. Meanwhile it appears that Apple will indeed have to pay for advertisements that say they're sorry for saying the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was a copy of the iPad. The underage workers at Foxconn have had an issue released on them by Nintendo.

SlashGear Morning Wrap-up: October 11, 2012

This morning it's time for a redesign of Google's mobile homepage - for Android devices, anyway, and on Chrome mostly, as well as a new version of Google+ for both Android and iOS devices. Google has also begun recruiting Android "ambassadors" for their call center - people dedicated to the operating system in an intense way. The DoCoMo SH-02E ZETA is a brand new Android-based smartphone that's the first to use Sharp's own lovely IGZO display - intense!
