Samsung SCH-W899 Android clamshell packs dual Super AMOLED touchscreens

, Dec 6th 2010 Discuss [2]

When we heard Samsung had launched a dual Super AMOLED touchscreen Android smartphone in China, we had visions of Fujitsu's bendy-twisty dual-display prototype. Sadly the Samsung W899 isn't quite so imaginative; instead you get a 3.3-inch touchscreen on the inside and outside of an Android 2.2 Froyo flip, complete with a physical numeric keypad for easier number entry. Samsung’s bada most successful OS launch since iPhone?

, Nov 22nd 2010 Discuss [6]

Samsung's bada OS didn't convince us at its launch, and the first bada device - the Samsung Wave S8500 - was soon overshadowed by the Android-based Galaxy S. Turns out, that may have been too hasty; according to the most recent smartphone figures, crunched by Tomi Ahonen, bada's launch has been the most successful OS debut since that of the original iPhone. Samsung Wave II S8530 pops up in the wild

, Oct 8th 2010 Discuss [7]

Samsung's new Wave II S8530 has shown up in the wild, complete with the latest bada 1.2 OS and a larger display than its Wave S8500 predecessor.  HDBlog grabbed some hands-on time, finding the switch from 3.3-inch Super AMOLED to 3.7-inch Super LCD means the Wave II is thicker than the old model. Samsung Wave II S8530 gets bigger but dumps Super AMOLED

, Oct 4th 2010 Discuss [8]

Samsung's Wave S8500 was a classic case of great hardware let down by mediocre software - in its case bada - and unfortunately we've no reason to assume its successor will be any different.  The Samsung Wave II S8530 looks a whole lot like the original Wave but in fact has a bigger 3.7-inch Super LCD touchscreen rather than the S8500's 3.3-inch Super AMOLED panel. Verizon’s dual-touch Samsung Continuum gets second outing

We caught a glimpse of the Samsung Continuum SCH-i400 yesterday, but now the dual-touchscreen Verizon Android phone has leaked more comprehensively.  Android Central managed to snag some hands-on time with the Verizon Continuum, finding its main touchscreen to be considerably smaller than that of the Verizon Fascinate and its Ticker mini-touchscreen to work surprisingly well. Samsung Wave 723 tries bada on mainstream hardware

, Aug 30th 2010 Discuss [0]

We can't say we were overwhelmingly convinced with Samsung's bada smartphone OS back when we reviewed the Wave S8500, the handset's high-end specs doing most of the wowing, so we'll be interested to see how a more affordable model fares.  Samsung has just outed the Wave 723 (GT-S7320E), apparently intended to further "democritize" the smartphone market, with a 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD display, 5-megapixel camera and dualband UMTS/HSPA. Samsung Galaxy S Review

, Jun 28th 2010 Discuss [209]

The Android smartphone segment keeps getting stronger, and the Samsung Galaxy S looks set to be a key player in 2010. Not only does it get the company’s coveted Super AMOLED display, but a 1GHz processor, 720p HD video recording and plenty of wireless connectivity. Now freshly announced as incoming to Verizon as the Fascinate, T-Mobile USA as the Vibrant and of course AT&T as the Captivate, the Galaxy S is certainly spreading itself around. Is this Android’s answer to the iPhone 4? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Samsung Galaxy S gets video unboxing

, Jun 17th 2010 Discuss [11]

Back when we reviewed the Samsung Wave, while we loved its Super AMOLED display and swift 1GHz Hummingbird processor, we also felt the Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.1 would be a better bet for most consumers than the new bada OS.  Happily that’s something we can test out now, since there’s a Samsung Galaxy S fresh to the test bench at Android Community today.
