Samsung Omnia i900 gets Android in dual-boot OS hack

Industrious hackers have managed to get Google's Android OS to run on the Omnia i900, the first-gen Windows Mobile phone from Samsung.  The project currently loads Android from a microSD card, and in its early stages can't access the majority of the Omnia's hardware; that means no calls and no using the 5-megapixel autofocus camera. Samsung Omnia II GT-I8000 preparing for June 15th launch? [Video]

Further details regarding the Samsung GT-I8000 have emerged, and it seems that you're looking at the Samsung Omnia II (or Omnia2; the nomenclature isn't decided yet).  Packing a 3.7-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen - that's tipped to use an AMOLED panel - the Omnia II has an 8.1-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and VGA video recording at 30fps. Connectivity is tipped to include 3G UMTS, WiFi, Bluetooth and miniUSB, while there's also GPS and a microSD card slot.  The UI is prompting discussion: some are saying that it's unchanged over previous iterations of Samsung's Windows Mobile TouchWiz overlay, while a video demo said to be of the Omnia II shows a new, cubic arrangement. Samsung Acme i8910 appears: new high-spec smartphone for MWC?

Images purporting to be of a new touchscreen handset, the Samsung Acme i8910, have leaked, together with word that the device is set for launch at Mobile World Congress later this month.  The Acme i8910 is believed to be an 8-megapixel cameraphone with specifications similar to those of the Samsung Omnia, together with either 8GB or 16GB of storage, GPS and DivX playback. Other rumored specifications include an HDMI output, WiFi connectivity (which we'd assume would go along with 3G), a 3.5mm headphone socket and is DLNA compatibility.  Going from the pictures, there looks to be a front-facing camera for video calling, too, plus volume controls on the left-hand side. An image of the upcoming LG Arena KM900 touchscreen cellphone has leaked, complete with preliminary specifications, ahead of what's likely to be a Mobile World Congress launch later this month.  The LG KM900 has a large touchscreen believed to be 240 x 400 resolution, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 5-megapixel camera with the ability to record HD video. Samsung MWC details leak: 12MP feature-phone, Android device & 16GB Omnia

Samsung Propel Pro for AT&T leaks

Details on the Samsung Propel Pro for AT&T have leaked out, the updated smartphone version of the original Propel launched on the network last October.  The Propel Pro throws out the original OS and replaces it with Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (i.e. the non-touchscreen version), adding an optical joystick to navigate the new platform.  The original's slide-out QWERTY keyboard remains, as does its 2.2-inch display. Verizon Samsung Omnia SCH-i910 announced for $249.99

Verizon Wireless have announced the CDMA version of the Samsung Omnia, the SCH-i910, complete with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with flash, and WiFi b/g.  The Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro handset has Samsung's TouchWiz GUI overlay, offering customizable widgets that work with the Omnia's haptic feedback.  There's also an optical mouse. Samsung in talks to bring T*Omnia smartphone to US?

Could the Samsung T*Omnia be coming to the US sooner than we dared hope?  That's the latest rumor from Business Week, who claim Samsung are in negotiations with a US carrier to launch the handset by the end of November.  That would see it available only a few weeks after its launch in Korea.  However there's confusion as to whether the current talks are regarding a CDMA version of the original Omnia i900, or a GSM/WCDMA version of the new T*Omnia i907. It wasn't enough for Samsung to upset US buyers by not making a compatible 3G HSDPA version of the Omnia i900 smartphone for them; now they're looking to drive Europe to horrible tears by updating it to this, the Samsung T*Omnia.  Out goes the old 3.22-inch 240 x 400 touchscreen, to be replaced with a glorious 3.3-inch 480 x 800 panel.  Then, to make sure every carrier other than those in Korea ignore it, Samsung dropped in a DMB-TV tuner.
