Samsung to launch iPad-like mid-range Galaxy Tab A May 1

Samsung to launch iPad-like mid-range Galaxy Tab A May 1

Samsung has a plethora of tablets of varying sizes and capacities and now it is adding one more to the lineup , ready to land in the US next week. For all intents and purposes, the Galaxy Tab A line, of which there are two (three if you separately count the one with an S-Pen), is a rather mediocre offerings on par with the likes of the Galaxy Tab 4 family. One crucial difference, however, is in the size and aspect ratio of the two, sporting the same 4:3 design the the iPads tout.

US carriers are stripping down the Galaxy S6 even further

US carriers are stripping down the Galaxy S6 even further

Samsung's phones are notorious for the amount of bloatware they come with, exacerbated by carriers' own bloatware on top. For this round, however, Samsung was noted to have put the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge on a software diet. Well, as much as it can concede. It still has some, of course, but not exactly as bad as before. US carriers seem to also be getting into the rhythm. It's not exactly surprising to hear that carriers are modifying their versions of the Galaxy S6, but some of the changes are rather puzzling at times.

Samsung does its own drop tests for Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge

Samsung does its own drop tests for Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge

Since users seem to be having a hell of a time taking smartphone endurance tests into their own hands lately, Samsung saw it fit to step in and give it's own "scientific" spin to the torture. After all, who better to know how to properly test a device for real world disasters than the one who made it, right? Regardless of your opinion or belief in such manufacturer-advertised stress tests, Samsung is coming out with a video of its own drop tests for its two flagships. Unsurprisingly, they survived with nary a scratch.

Samsung Gear A tipped to be round and powerful

Samsung Gear A tipped to be round and powerful

The next release by Samsung in the wearables department may well be their first in the round department. While Samsung's efforts haven't gone unnoticed in the smartwatch market - they've got more out there than anyone else - they don't have anything with a round display. Imagine the accolades being tossed at Samsung for the displays on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Now imagine they've created a circular display that'll sit on your wrist and do everything the Gear S does.

LG G3 Google Cardboard VR headset Review mini

LG G3 Google Cardboard VR headset Review mini

The first thing I said to myself when I placed the "VR for G3" against my face was "ouch."* This piece of equipment is made of hard plastic, and is the beginning of something much bigger for LG and the Virtual Reality universe. They say so, in fact. "This is just the beginning," they print on a card in the box - "Want to be the first to hear about what's next from LG," they ask, "sign up now" to find out more. Meanwhile we're fairly sure we're a bit early to the game as the URL we're direct to launches a VR for G3 first announcement sort of presentation.

Samsung’s inescapable S6 app bloat fuels the microSD fire

Samsung’s inescapable S6 app bloat fuels the microSD fire

Samsung may have a potential smartphone hit on its hands with the Galaxy S6, but the specter of inescapable apps still casts a pall over TouchWiz. The new flagship - and its curved Galaxy S6 edge sibling - see Samsung's Android skin brought more in line with Google's Material Design than ever before, but there's still a headache involved, especially if you've opted for the smallest memory variant. That's because, while Samsung has apparently done its best to pre-populate the S6 with the sort of apps the company believes most users will want, there's not much room to be rid of them if you don't agree.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Review

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Review

Samsung has a lackluster track record making flagship smartphones with serious lust-appeal. Its plastic-bodied Galaxy range was the Camry trying to play in Mercedes and Audi territory, earnestly ticking the boxes on the spec sheet, but failing to grasp that owners care about a sense of prestige as much they do a roster of the latest functionality. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and its flashy Galaxy S6 edge sibling are a lesson hard-learned, then, with both patchy sales and increasingly vocal criticism in 2014 demanding changes be made. 2015 might well be the fiercest year in phone tech yet; these two are evidence of Samsung's A-game.

LG G3’s Google Cardboard VR tandem comes to the US

Jealous of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4's, and soon Galaxy S6's, VR bent but more of an LG kind of user? Well, no reason to be jealous anymore. At least if you still haven't gotten the company's 2014 flagship. As revealed last February, LG will be offering a free Google Cardboard manufactured specifically for the LG G3, but getting one might not be as easy as it first seems. While this VR promotion has finally landed on US shores, it isn't going to last forever.
