T-Mobile teaser confirms “edgy”, “Six Appeal” of Galaxy S6

T-Mobile teaser confirms “edgy”, “Six Appeal” of Galaxy S6

We've seen quite a few leaks and teasers about the Galaxy S6, some coming from Samsung itself. With MWC 2015 so close, however, even mobile carriers are jumping on the train. T-Mobile has just put up its pre-release email registration page and, while that act itself is nothing newsworthy, the carrier is throwing in a teaser our way as well. It is probably the clearest preview of the Galaxy S6 we've ever had, but, like any good teaser, it still leaves some questions open for us to think about.

Galaxy S6 and Edge: here’s what they look like

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are likely on their way to the United States soon. But before we get there, we've got some conceptualized visions to look at. The following bit is a rendered piece of work by artists Ivo Maric and Jermaine Smit, and it'll give you an approximation of what the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy Edge (or S6 Edge, whatever you prefer) might very well look like. Remember - this isn't from Samsung, it's a concept based on rumors.

Galaxy S6 details teased in Samsung video

Galaxy S6 details teased in Samsung video

This week the folks at Samsung are preparing for release of the Galaxy S6 with a new teaser video. This is "The Next Galaxy", as they've said the past several years, the next big thing to come from Samsung in smartphone form. This device appears to be very flat and without edge-faring displays. There's a second phone, more than likely, making this a double-release, but for now we're limited to this video bit. It's very short, and really doesn't say one whole heck of a lot.

Samsung Gear VR Teardown (mini)

Samsung Gear VR Teardown (mini)

What follows is not a full teardown of the Samsung Gear VR. We're not going to go through all the steps involved in finding the right screwdrivers, spudgers, pins and all that. Instead we're going to go through the basics for two groups of people. First, the people that own Gear VR units that want to get inside without destroying their device. Second, for people who want to see what this device is made of. To the untrained eye, it's certainly not made of a lot, that's for certain.

Tizen Samsung Z2 rumored to be coming soon with qHD screen

Emboldened by its unexpected success with the Tizen-bearing Samsung Z1 in India, Samsung is now reported to be stepping on the gas pedal. The Samsung Z2, which is what the next iteration may or should be called, might just be around the corner, months ahead of schedule. And while the rumor mill is still silent on juicy details, development on the Tizen OS itself seems to hold hints that the next smartphone will be able to support a slightly higher resolution of 960x540 pixels.

Samsung Galaxy S6 tipped to ship with Microsoft apps

Samsung Galaxy S6 tipped to ship with Microsoft apps

While Samsung's Galaxy line of smartphone are often seen as one of the flagship Android devices, the manufacturer's default apps that come with the TouchWiz interface leave a lot to be desired. Mostly the ability to delete them. The apps do little more than take up storage space and slow the operating system down; in other words, bloatware. However, that trend may finally change with the S6, as an insider report from SamMobile is saying Samsung will drop its own apps in favor of shipping the smartphone with Microsoft offerings.

Xiaomi Mi Note hands-on: More than just an Apple clone

Xiaomi Mi Note hands-on: More than just an Apple clone

Xiaomi is on a charm offensive, and that means setting the record straight. Outspoken VP of International Hugo Barra returned to San Francisco alongside Xiaomi President Lin Bin to introduce the MIUI flavor of Android, not to mention the latest Mi Note smartphone, to a curious - if a little skeptical - tech press. Wildly popular in China and other countries, but known more for the inspiration it's accused of taking from Apple and others in the West, Xiaomi isn't quite ready for a US launch but thought it was high time we saw just what Chinese users are enjoying.

Galaxy S6 Edge detailed with 3-sided screen

Galaxy S6 Edge detailed with 3-sided screen

This week the folks at Samsung seem to have a leaking problem - and/or the people talking about the Galaxy S6 have read the rumors from last week. Word this week is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will have a double-sided or triple-sided display, taking the Galaxy Note 4's best friend Galaxy Note Edge up a notch. This device would have two curved edges, one on the left, the other on the right of the main screen. There's also rumors of metal! And a high-powered camera!

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge get official mention

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge get official mention

Samsung has seemingly confirmed that there will be two variants of the Galaxy S6 smartphone, with one - the Galaxy S6 Edge - expected to use a curved touchscreen. The new flagship will make its official debut at Samsung's pre-Mobile World Congress event in just a few weeks time, but two support pages for the Galaxy S6 (referred to by its SM-G920X product code) and the S6 Edge (as the SM-G925X) have already sprung up. Although neither has anything so useful as product shots or even diagrams of what the handsets will look like, it's apparent confirmation that the curved side-screen first used on the Galaxy Note Edge isn't quite ready for mass-market use.

Galaxy S6 Edge details arrive in cases

Today the Samsung Galaxy S Edge seems to have been re-confirmed alongside the Samsung Galaxy S6. In an image of a selection of cases from little-known brand Verus, both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge (or just S Edge) can be seen. Here you'll notice that the Samsung device's edge is not just all by its lonesome, it's joined by some volume keys as well. This is different from the Galaxy Note Edge which keeps all of its buttons to the top or the opposite side of the device.
