Apple’s Samsung reliance grows despite legal drama says research

Apple's attempts to extricate itself from Samsung reliance for components have ironically seen the Cupertino firm increase orders for some parts, new research suggests. Samsung supplied more full-sized iPad panels for Apple than LG Display did in two out of the three months of Q2 2013, NPD DisplaySearch says, and in fact has seen a dramatic uptick in how many LCD screens it sends to iPad production lines from the top of this year.

Apple must pay Samsung’s UK legal costs after iPad copy comment farce

Apple must pay Samsung’s UK legal costs after iPad copy comment farce

Apple has been forced to pay for Samsung's legal fees in the UK, after an appeals court decided the Cupertino firm's first public statement on the tablet copying ruling was "false and misleading." Having failed to convince a UK court that Samsung had copied its iPad design for its own tablets, Apple produced a passive aggressive statement that, while hosted on its UK site as per the judge's instructions, also cited international court decisions that described Samsung products as "uncool" copies. Now, despite having replaced that original statement - which supposedly had more than 1m hits - with a toned-down version, Apple is being made to pay Samsung's costs in penance.

Samsung may have been reasonably magnanimous in its defeat of Apple's US preliminary injunction attempts, but the Korean company's execs haven't lost their fighting spirit even if it's generally only wheeled out when off the record. "If we win in Paris as well, that’s truly a big blow to Apple ... We are ready to aggressively sell the Tabs" a Samsung exec told the Korea Times on condition on anonymity, while CEO Choi Gee-sung has confirmed a $200m legal fund has been put aside to field Apple's courtroom attacks in 2012.

Samsung demands Apple legal team be disqualified over insider knowledge fears

The legal furore between Apple and Samsung has taken another bizarre turn, with the Korean company demanding that some - or potentially all - of Apple's outside legal team be dismissed over conflict of interest. According to Samsung's newest motion, FOSSpatents reports, the law firm Bridges & Mavrakakis which Apple has retained was co-founded by someone who previously represented Samsung while at a previous firm, along with several of the other lawyers on the team. The company alleges that the firm now has "privileged and confidential" knowledge of Samsung which it could well use in shaping Apple's legal case.

Samsung to appeal: Apple accused of omitting evidence

Samsung will fight the $120m damages a US court ruled it must pay Apple, the South Korean firm has insisted, accusing its rival of omitting "real world evidence" that would have proved Samsung's innocence. The San Jose court found in Apple's favor late last week, with a jury deeming Samsung guilty of patent infringement with its Galaxy series of phones among other products, though awarded the iPhone maker a fraction of the cash it was demanding.
