Razer acquires OUYA officially

Razer acquires OUYA officially

In a move that'll likely put them in competition direct with the likes of NVIDIA, Razer has acquired Android console-maker OUYA. This tiny machine - the OUYA - was created back before Android TV was a reality, making headway in the "Android console" space before Android was prepared to live in the living room. Over the past couple of years the company hasn't done especially well for itself, falling a bit behind in the market as it fails to summon the explosive response elicited with its original launch.

Ouya’s salvation might come from Razer

Ouya's quest for survival might be close to an end, for better or for worse. The once darling of the Android gaming and Kickstarter communities has, for months, been rumored to be looking for potential partners, investors, or, when all else fails, buyers. Although it has been successful to some extent, the story was far from over. Now that chapter might soon be ending, with sources familiar to the matter claiming that gaming device and accessory maker Razer are in talks on how to buy Ouya out of its predicament.

Razer Forge TV pre-orders are now real, shipping April 29

After a brief false alarm early this month, Razer has finally taken off the veils and put up its Android TV offering up for pre-order. Not much has changed, including the speculated price tag. And yes, there is a bundle that will net you both the Forge TV and the Serval controller, which don't come together. More than anything, this reassures fans that the Android TV promise ala Razer is real and coming soon. In fact, it will come on April 29 at the earliest.

Razer Forge TV pre-order reveals May 1 shipping date

Razer Forge TV pre-order reveals May 1 shipping date

Razer's little gaming console, the Razer Forge TV, went up for pre-order today...and then was pulled without explanation. We first got a look at the console back during CES 2015, and it is, in true Razer fashion, a stylish dark console with green trim and a matching controller. The Forge TV is a set-top box akin to things like the Fire TV and the Apple TV, but it has a dedicated gaming slant, including related peripherals designed for use when you're lounging on the couch or in the recliner.

Razer’s OSVR now has 50 partners for a single VR standard

Razer’s OSVR now has 50 partners for a single VR standard

This week at GDC 2015, OSVR announced that several hard-hitting names in gaming recently joined their cause - to unite the whole VR universe under one set of standards. This also marks the first clear point at which OSVR is being promoted as a system separate from Razer. Instead of this being a Razer-centric announcement from Razer, it's positioned as an OSVR-centric announcement from the OSVR group. It's an organization to rally the VR universe, after all, not just the efforts of one company.

Another part of the update was in revealing the new total number of supporters of OSVR - 50 partners in all. Then there the brand new OSVR Hacker Development Kit v1.1, complete with a 1080p full-HD OLED display with higher contrast and lower latency than the first edition - the version we saw at CES 2015 earlier this year.

Razer Tactical Bag Review: the gear backpack of your dreams

Razer Tactical Bag Review: the gear backpack of your dreams

My review of the Razer Tactical Bag began in January of 2015, about a month and a half ago. The bag was delivered to me right in time for CES 2015 - easily the most action-packed week for me out of the whole year - for tech, that is to say. During the week I carry a lot of weight. In past years, I've brought bags that weren't up to the task. I've had bags whose handles rip partway through the week. I've had bags that didn't end up having nearly enough space or pockets for organization of oddities. The Razer Tactical Bag was up to the task.
