AMD have announced their latest graphics card, the ATI Radeon HD 5830, just as they were predicted to last week.  The HD 5830 slots into the sub-$250 bracket and supports DirectX 11, ATI's Eyefinity multi-display technology and ATI Stream; however it also confirms yesterday's leaked specifications, which revealed that the card would not be as powerful - in comparison to its HD 5850 sibling - as some users had anticipated.

ATI Radeon HD 5830 detailed: disappointing specs

Specifications for the much-anticipated ATI Radeon HD 5830 have leaked, courtesy of Chinese site IT168.com, and there's a little disappointment in store for anyone expecting a bargain HD5850 alternative.  The slide - which is tipped to have come from an internal presentation deck - confirms the rumored $250 pricing window, but also that the new card is down a significant 320 stream processors, 16 texture units and 16 ROPs on the HD 5850.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 leaks, gets benchmarked

Details of NVIDIA's upcoming mid-range Fermi based video card - until now known as the GeForce GTX 460 - have leaked, with Chinese site eNet claiming to have acquired a GF100 GPU based video card.  According to their sources, the chip will show up in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 on June 2nd; they've also been testing it, discovering that NVIDIA have disabled several elements of the GPU (the GF100 also powers the GTX 470/480) including limiting stream processors to 352 and RAM to 1GB.

HP's ENVY range has been updated, with the existing ENVY 13 and ENVY 15 replaced by a new ENVY 14 and ENVY 17 with, as you could probably guess, 14.5- and 17-inch displays.  We grabbed some hands-on time with the new notebooks, and the good news is that what were decent machines have now become even better systems, packing Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, new slot-loading optical drives and a better array of display connectivity.  More specs and first-impressions after the cut.

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450, 440 & 430 with Fermi GF104 tipped for June

NVIDIA's Fermi GF100-based GeForce GTX 480/470 video cards are expected to arrive sometime today, but according to the latest rumors the company is already planning their mid-range and entry-level alternatives.  Believed to be on track for a June 2010 launch at the earliest, according to 3dceter.org three of the cards will use the 40nm GF104 core with up to 256 shader cores, 64 TMUs, 32 ROPs and a 256-bit memory bus.  Although naming isn't finalised, they're believed to be known as the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450, 440 and 430.
