Prometheus 2 finds its writer: Transcendence author supposedly onboard

Prometheus 2, the follow-up to 2012's contentious Alien prequel, has apparently found its writer, with new script star Jack Paglen reportedly clinching the deal. The relative unknown - whose first major script, Transcendence, will see its theater debut in 2014 - was supposedly a hot topic at 20th Century Scott for the past weeks, according to TheWrap, but now Ridley Scott is tipped to have given his approval, according to a source close to the agreement.

Prometheus 2 won’t be written by Damon Lindelof

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof will not write Prometheus 2, he has confirmed, suggesting that "much to the delight of all the fanboys" he won't have time to work with Ridley Scott on the sequel. The follow-up to the Alien prequel was confirmed as in the pipeline over the summer, with a 2014 release expected; however, despite speculation of his return, Lindelof told Collider that he is too focused on other projects to devote himself to Prometheus 2.

Prometheus 2 confirmed for 2014

Prometheus 2 confirmed for 2014

In a rather unceremoniously and suspiciously low-key fashion, Fox has confirmed that there will indeed be a sequel to this summer's science fiction smash hit Prometheus. This news bit comes to The Hollywood Reporter via Fox president of production Emma Watts, who notes that, "Ridley [Scott] is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it." It would appear that at least two major actors from the first film are signed on to the project as well - but we must warn you that knowing who they are may very well spoil the first movie for you - so beware!

Papercraft Prometheus trailer is all kinds of awesome

Papercraft Prometheus trailer is all kinds of awesome

Prometheus director Ridley Scott was particularly proud of the number of physical effects used in the new film rather than CGI, and we've a feeling he'd appreciate the effort that went into this fan-made papercraft trailer too. The handiwork of artist Travis Betz, the trailer - which you can see after the cut - is a scene-for-scene recreation of the official Prometheus promo, only replicated using cut-outs and some low-tech special effects.

Prometheus hits US theaters today

Prometheus hits US theaters today

It's June 8, and that means one thing: Prometheus opens in theaters across the US, finally giving the not-quite-an-Alien-prequel its time to shine. Director Ridley Scott returns to the Alien universe he created in horrifying fashion over thirty years ago, with a film that started out to tell the story of what led up to the 1979 classic, but subsequently evolved into the start of a sci-fi franchise in its own right.

Prometheus: SlashGear meets Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green

The alien creatures in Prometheus might arguably steal the show, but whether they're antagonist, host or just plain meat, the human cast is equally important. SlashGear sat down with stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green after the Prometheus world premiere to talk post-curtain rumors, working in the shadow of Ripley, and how the whole film might actually be a robot love story.

Ridley Scott talks Prometheus with SlashGear: Candid & Uncut

Director Ridley Scott is a man who needs little introduction: the genius behind Gladiator, the original Alien and, of course, Prometheus. SlashGear sat down with Scott - along with Prometheus writer Damon Lindelof - shortly after the movie's worldwide premiere, to talk director's cuts, the difficult balance of religion and science, and to find out about "The F*cking Cappuccino Theory of Astrophysics."

Prometheus: We talk Alien and tech with Ridley’s writer duo

Prometheus has arrived with a bang, Ridley Scott's expansive Alien prequel, and SlashGear sat down with writers Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts to talk Quadrilogy canon, SpaceX and angry androids. Jointly responsible for a screenplay that has spawned intense debate and no small amount of controversy, both Lindelof and Spaihts have a history of creating science-fiction that's as cerebral as it is explosive.

Prometheus Movie Review and Red Carpet Coverage

Prometheus Movie Review and Red Carpet Coverage

Alien was all about dark, ominous spaces and a sense of intense claustrophobia and mounting tension - in part due to Ridley Scott's withholding of the final Xenomorph in all its glory as the film reached its climax (along with hiding its comparably low-tech costume). Prometheus is the CGI-overspilling, determinedly 3D and generally expansive movie Scott could never make back in 1979. It's a fraught process, returning to a story that not only helped make a career but shaped a genre, and Prometheus swings between sensation, horror and a sometimes uncomfortable philosophy.
