Why Motion Gaming Should Be Left Out of the PlayStation 4

Why Motion Gaming Should Be Left Out of the PlayStation 4

At the end of February, Sony will be holding a special PlayStation event that, industry experts believe, will be used to show off its next console. Likely dubbed the PlayStation 4, the console is expected to come with an improved online experience, better graphics, and Blu-ray. And since the PlayStation 3 comes with the Move motion-gaming accessory, it’s believed that the console will also integrate a similar function in some way.

But I’m here to tell Sony something. I can appreciate that the company wants to jump on the motion bandwagon made popular by the Wii and arguably better by the Kinect, but bundling such a feature into the PlayStation 4 makes absolutely no sense.

PlayStation 4 release tipped by Sony event invite

This week the event known as Destination PlayStation (2013) has been confirmed in an invitation to the press (and retail executives, of course) with promise of more 2013 action than the game-loving public can handle. This event is set to show off games, primarily, but attendees will also be "treated to food, drink, play, and a first look at all the amazing new releases coming from Sony Computer Entertainment America Entertainment in 2013." An announcement of the next-generation PlayStation gaming console would fit with the scheduling of a release to the public in 2014 given past release trends from Sony.

Is 2014 too late for the PlayStation 4?

Is 2014 too late for the PlayStation 4?

Much has been made about Nintendo’s decision to launch a new Wii this year. The Wii U, which allows for gaming both on the television and the controller, is reportedly ready to hit store shelves in November, just in time for the busy holiday season.

Unfortunately for Nintendo, however, the discussion about the Wii U has been more likely to center not on the console’s features, but on its chances of being overshadowed by hardware from the likes of Microsoft and Sony.

Sony PlayStation 4 tipped for 2013

Sony PlayStation 4 tipped for 2013

With games such as Doom 3: BFG Edition still making waves in the industry of what some would call a fading wave for console gaming, Sony's PlayStation 4's release in 2013 is sure to be a hit. That's what "sources close to the matter" speaking with the Wall Street Jounral are saying in hopes that the news this week that an ultra-slick disk-less cloud-based PlayStation was being released was bashed by early critics. This situation reflects essentially what happened when the PSP Go was released, failure that it was with downloadable content only, ditching physical game units altogether.

Sony Must Announce the PlayStation 4 ASAP

Earlier this week, reports surfaced suggesting Sony would be launching the PlayStation 4 next year. Almost immediately, Sony fans jumped for joy at the news, while Microsoft fans scoffed at the idea. And along the way, Sony hasn’t said for sure what might happen.

Even so, I’m here to tell you (and Sony) that the PlayStation 4 should launch as early as possible next year.

Sony PlayStation 4 Still Five Years Away?

Sony PlayStation 4 Still Five Years Away?

The Sony PlayStation 3 has been around for awhile now. In tech years, it could be like a hundred years old. But when it came out in 2006 the machine was meant to be so advanced that it would have a lifecycle of ten years versus six years like its predecessors the PS2 and PS1. But now reaching its halfway point, could Sony ponder pushing forth a PS4 sooner than later? Most signs confirm a negative.

Sony PlayStation 4 Will Use Physical Media Says Kaz Hirai

For those out there in the world who are clinging to the old principles of consumption, like how to buy and read a book or purchase and watch a movie, the future is a pretty bleak place.
