Pebble breaks Kickstarter record; Broad dev features detailed

E-paper smartwatch Pebble continues to set Kickstarter records, breaking the $3.6m barrier with a month left to run, while the team responsible fleshes out its developer support. The free SDK will be available prior to Pebble itself shipping, with a simulator to test out apps-in-progress; there'll also be a web service so that online apps can send notifications to Pebble without a local app on the watch or paired smartphone being required.

Pebble smartwatch breaks $1 million barrier in 28 hours

The Kickstarter project for the Pebble smartwatch only began yesterday, but it hit its $100,000 goal in just two hours. The company offered 200 early buyers the watch for $99, which sold out in a matter of minutes, and their target to take the watch to manufacturing has been shattered. Not only that, but currently the project has managed to amass over $1.1 million so far, with around 8,500 people pledging money towards the project to get their hands on the smartwatch.

Garmin chirp is your pocket geocaching pebble

Garmin has outed the unusually-named chirp, a $22.99 geocaching dongle intended for those people whose idea of a good weekend is snuffling round clutching their PND and looking for treasure in Tupperware.  Compatible with any of the company's wirelessly-enabled handhelds, the chirp can basically be programmed to give location hints for other geocachers, and then hidden - it's waterproof, usefully - so as to encourage them along the way whenever they pass.
