Android Wear’s iOS victim isn’t Apple Watch, it’s Pebble

Android Wear has been updated to work with iOS, and while some suggest it's the Apple Watch that'll suffer, we're thinking Pebble. The smartwatch that took hold a couple years ago with its super-simple interface, physical buttons, and most important of all - iOS integration from the get-go. Being the only smartwatch in the world worth a second glance was great for Pebble when it launched. Now things are different. Now there's competition, and Pebble really, truly looks like it's behind the times.

Take Two: BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R debuts at Pebble Beach

1975 was a very special year for BMW. Then called "Bavarian Motor Works", the car maker first set foot in the US that year, the first time it did so outside Europe. It was also on that year that it joined its first US motor race with the now iconic BMW 3.0 CSL. 40 years later, BMW wants to celebrate that momentous year by revealing the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R at the equally popular Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach, giving due respect to the past while, at the same time, blazing forward to the future.

Reservations for the Pebble Time Steel start now

Reservations for the Pebble Time Steel start now

Pebble definitely doesn't waste any time. Pun totally intended. It was barely two weeks ago when it put its color-toting Pebble Time up for grab by non-Kickstarter backers. Now, due to popular demand, and we'll just presume it is really popular, it is doing the same for the steel-clad Pebble Time Steel. With an important caveat. This isn't the start of retail availability of the new smartwatch just yet. Instead, Pebble is only taking reservations on its website, with a promise to start shipping sometime in September.

Oculus acquires Pebbles to bring hands into the mix

Oculus has acquired Pebbles, a company all about tracking your hands with visual computing. For Oculus, this means bringing next-level hand-sensing, tracking, and visualizations into the mix with virtual reality. Instead of having to use a controller, soon you'll be able to see and use your hands - without the aid of controllers. While we've seen glimpses of hand-tracking with the most recent version of Oculus Rift before the consumer edition, this technology should jolt Oculus forward. The demonstration you're about to see will make the visual situation super simple to comprehend.

Pebble Time goes on pre-order outside Kickstarter

Pebble Time goes on pre-order outside Kickstarter

While the already-established brand Pebble decided to head back to the startup-friendly Kickstarter for its second release, regular sales have begun now in earnest. Earlier this year the second-generation smartwatch Pebble Time was revealed with a colorful display and new body, done so through the crow funding campaign website Kickstarter. This gave a sign of the times - the site was no longer for starting up companies, but for companies that'd previously sought funding from fans as well. While it's still not necessarily a store, Kickstarter didn't seem to mind selling Pebble's second watch from the outset.

Pebble Time app finally arrives on iOS

Pebble Time app finally arrives on iOS

After what seemed like a long delay, Pebble Time's smartwatch app is finally available on iOS. Although the app could have been earnestly stuck in the Apple review process, it seems more likely that Apple's hesitance stems from the fact that Pebble is a direct competitor with Apple Watch. Its slick iOS interface could tempt prospective smartwatch buyers to opt for the more reasonable Pebble Time over the high-end Apple Watch, on Apple's on turf.

Pebble points finger at Apple in app delay issues

If you're a Pebble user, you're likely aware that the smartwatch company has a bit of an app delay happening in regards to its iOS offerings, and users are starting to get rowdy about it. The Pebble Time app for the iPhone has been delayed, and the company issued a statement about it today, putting the blame on Apple for delaying the review process. Pebble Time iFixit appraisal: don’t worry about repairs

Pebble Time iFixit appraisal: don’t worry about repairs

As devices get more powerful, their innards also get more sophisticated, usually leading to harder to repair contraptions of doom and gloom. That's why when an equally powerful device gets an iFixit score of 9 out of 10, there is much reason for rejoicing and praise. Granted, the Pebble Time isn't the most complex smartwatch in the market, but for its abilities, its price, and its battery life, a high repairability score pretty much puts it in our Santa's wishlist already. And we're only in May!
