Roads? The Back to the Future drone doesn’t need roads

, Mar 12th 2012 Discuss [0]

The AR.Drone is a nifty piece of kit, and as we saw the other day, there are some interesting and unique possibilities in how to control it. Drones also figure prominently into law enforcement, but our only complaint is that they all look a bit boring. If only someone came along and spruced up the exterior to be a little bit more entertaining. Read The Full Story

Controlling the drone and seeing video on such small screens hasn’t always been ideal, though. Thomas Sohmers, tech geek and inventor, has come up with an alternate method of controlling the drone while keeping an eye on the feed. Read The Full Story

Chinese man builds full size AR.Drone to fly around

, Sep 22nd 2011 Discuss [4]

This has to be the bravest dude on the planet, or perhaps the dumbest I can’t really decide. A Chinese farmer named Shu Mansheng has designed his own flying contraption that has no wings and used eight motorcycle engines fitted with propellers inside a big metal circle that holds a basket. The design of the craft reminds me more than a little of the AR.Drone. Read The Full Story

Researchers create AR.Drone that can hack into wireless networks

, Sep 12th 2011 Discuss [5]

When the Parrot AR.Drone landed a last year, it was a toy that many of us wanted really badly. We put up our review of the AR.Drone from Parrot last December and liked the toy pretty well. I am surprised that it has taken so long for us to see hacks that use the AR.Drone for things that are potentially nefarious. Hackers have created an AR.Drone that can hack into wireless networks while flying. Read The Full Story

Griffin HELO TC iPhone-controlled helicopter on sale now [Video]

, Aug 17th 2011 Discuss [7]

Griffin told us to expect its low-cost iPhone-controlled HELO TC helicopter in time for the holiday shopping season, but it seems the company just couldn't wait to put the R/C toy on sale. $49.99 gets you a rechargeable chopper bristling with LEDs and, while lacking the video streaming of something like the Parrot AR.Drone, has far less of an impact on your bank account. CrazyFlie quadrocopter uses a Playstation controller for control

, May 3rd 2011 Discuss [1]

I am a sucker for anything remote controlled. I particularly like remote control flying whatnots. I really liked the looks and cool factor of the AR.Drone, but that quadrocopter was just more than I could bring myself to spend on a toy. Three hackers from the Daedalus Project banded together to build their own tiny quadrocopter that is very small and looks pretty darn cool. The little copter is called the CrazyFlie and is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Read The Full Story
