Bullet counter leaps off PC FPS shooter screen and lands on real weapon

, Jan 31st 2011 Discuss [0]

One of the things that most FPS gamers are used to are bullet counters that tell you how much ammo is left in your digital weapon. I reckon that is an important bit of info to know in the real world too if you are in some sort of firefight. Read The Full Story

The HP Slate 500 and Enterprise Tablets

, Oct 22nd 2010 Discuss [16]

The debut of HP's Slate 500 begs the question as to whether or not enterprise customers and market verticals care about Tablet computers. For those of us who have followed the industry for 10 or more years this product announcement feels like a re-run of a TV show we saw 6 years ago.  Pen based Tablet PC's have come and gone and nearly all of them in the days of old focused on the enterprise.   Will Tablet / Slate PC's fair better this time around? What type of operating system should they run? Can they compete with the iPad?  Let's explore. Read The Full Story

On May 22nd, 2009, OQO confirmed that they would be closing their doors, and that the Model 2+ would never see an official release date. A few months after that, a Model 2+ actually did show up on eBay, and it went with an extravagant price tag of $5,100. There were still days to go on that auction, too, so it could have sold for even more. But, that was supposed to be the end of it. Read The Full Story

, Dec 9th 2009 Discuss [0]

Now turning a netbook into a cheap tablet or UMPC isn't new, and we've seen plenty such mods before, but this so-called Harlequin project is something else.  My Dell Mini forum member pakkei decided he couldn't wait for Microsoft to release the Courier and thought he'd make one himself, converting his Inspiron Mini 9 into a slate-format tablet and adding in a second, 9-inch USB touchscreen. Verizon Motorola Droid live: “the Android device to beat”

, Oct 19th 2009 Discuss [1]

With Verizon's ad campaign for the Motorola Droid kicking off in earnest over the weekend, and a launch date of October 30th tipped, it comes as little surprise to see a pre-production handset arrive over at the BGR.  They're mightily impressed, too, calling the Droid "the fastest Android device we've ever used" courtesy of its TI OMAP3430 chipset, branding its capacitive display "awesome" and "huge", and concluding that it's "the Android device to beat". Having heard the rumors earlier this week about Microsoft's supposed tablet project, imagine our surprise to see this, the Microsoft Courier.  Gizmodo grabbed the details on the dual-touchscreen tablet, which folds along its center spine and can be used with either a pen stylus for handwriting recognition or with fingertips complete with multitouch gestures.  Each panel is believed to be roughly 7-inches, and the whole project is apparently in "late prototype" stage of development. We can't help but think that if OQO had seen this much interest a few months back, they may not have gone bankrupt.  An OQO Model 2+ UMPC - the company's most recent model, complete with OLED touchscreen, Intel Atom 1.86GHz processor and integrated Qualcomm Gobi 3G WWAN - is currently listed on eBay, with bidding already at $5,100.
