Oppo preps early adoption program, beta BDP-83 Blu-ray player available in few weeks

Denon was one step ahead of Oppo to crown the title of World’s first Universal Blu-ray Player; it wouldn’t be for long, and would likely to get smashed by opposition in the next few weeks. An email from Oppo popped in my inbox minutes ago with the latest updates on the year most anticipated Blu-ray player. Pricing is still unsettled; could be anywhere from $499 - $599 but Oppo will launch an early adoption program for willing guinea-pigs wish to get their hands on a beta unit. The program is said to begin in late December or early Jan, and only limited-quantity will be available.

Folk at avsforum has spotted the long-awaited Blu-Ray Player at CEDIA. If you recall, the company has signed technology agreements with Blu-Ray early this year and started to work on feature set of the unit. Little information has been released to the public since then, and left Oppo fans speculating on company's direction to develop a truly Universal player with Blu-Ray compatibility. The company policy on Hi-def player has been neutral throughout the Format War. Now that the coast is clear, Oppo fan should be happy to learn that a region-free, 7.1 channels out, SACD via DSD, DVD-A playback on a Blu-Ray player may not longer a dream.
