ZTE Mimosa X revealed with NVIDIA Tegra 2 and Icera modem

This week the folks at ZTE and NVIDIA have announced their first collaboration: a smartphone by the name of Mimosa X, complete with Tegra 2 and an Icera modem. For those of you that don't remember, NVIDIA acquired Icera in mid-2011 and this combination is a first for several reasons. This device has a 4.3-inch display at qHD 960 x 540 pixel resolution screen, Dolby sound, and a launch date inside the second quarter of 2012. And it's going to launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

There was no shortage of NVIDIA Tegra 2 tablets at CES 2010 earlier this month, but the latest rumors suggest that the company will be bringing along even more hitherto-unseen hardware to Mobile World Congress 2010 next month to show just how special the 1080p-capable chipset is.  Fudzilla's sources have tipped not only a couple of new tablets but "other" devices, and their presumption is that these might include smartphones.

NVIDIA Tegra 2 gets official: Tablets targeted

NVIDIA have announced their next-gen Tegra platform, the unsurprisingly titled NVIDIA Tegra 2, and as expected the 40nm chip packs Full HD 1080p support and Flash 10.1 acceleration along with compatibility with Windows CE, Windows Mobile and Android.  NVIDIA say they're also working on Google Chrome OS support.  The Tegra 2 uses an ARM Cortex A9 core running at up to 1GHz, which NVIDIA reckon is good for four-times the performance of the first-gen Tegra.

NVIDIA Tegra 2 promised for CES: smartbooks, MIDs and smartphones in 2010

Various mouth-watering rumors about NVIDIA's next-gen Tegra 2 chipset have been circulating recently, but the company is promising not only details of their HD-capable low power chips at CES 2010 in January but hardware from OEM partners.  According to Michael Hara, senior vice president of investor relations and communications at the company, the first half of 2010 will see the launch of tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks and MIDs all based on Tegra 2.
