Nokia has inadvertently revealed what could be the first NFC-enabled Windows Phone, prematurely releasing a video of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 610 NFC. Confirming the new model to be a minor change from the already announced Lumia 610, the clip - since set to private but not before The Next Web could grab some details - also indicated that carrier Orange would be among the networks offering the phone.

New Nokia MeeGo duo tipped for Next Billion
Nokia is reportedly planning a further two MeeGo handsets, following the N9 with a pair of low-end devices that will slot into the company's Next Billion strategy for developing markets. The news, supposedly shared with them directly from a source in the Next Billion Group itself NetbookNews reports, would come as some relief to MeeGo fans, who had seen Nokia marginalize the platform in its smartphone push out of preference for Windows Phone.

Nokia N9 gets Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 dual-boot
Nokia N9 hardware and Android Ice Cream Sandwich: be still our beating hearts. The ongoing Nitdroid project to put Android on the MeeGo-powered N9 has come up with a new 4.0.3 alpha release, allowing owners to boot between the official OS and an unofficial injection of Ice Cream Sandwich. The list of working functionality is surprisingly long, too, given its alpha status: multitouch, 3D drivers and OpenGL, and GSM/3G connectivity are all playing ball.

Nokia N9 Ice Cream Sandwich port gets video demo
After last week's proof-of-concept shots of Android 4.0 running on Nokia's N9, port-meister Alexey Roslyakov has returned with a video demo of Ice Cream Sandwich on the ordinarily MeeGo smartphone. Roklyakov's hack turns the N9 into a dual-booting device; hitting the volume key during boot stops MeeGo from running and instead brings up Android 4.0.3.

Efforts to get Nokia's N9 running Android look to be bearing fruit, with modders coaxing the MeeGo smartphone into loading Ice Cream Sandwich. The handiwork of Alexey Roslyakov, the NITDroid project builds on earlier work porting Android to the Nokia N900, though there's not yet a public release or guidance on how you can get your own N9 to dual-boot between the platforms.

Nokia hints at Windows Phones with NFC sans ports
Nokia's design chief Marko Ahtisaari discussed the direction of future Lumia Windows Phones in an interview with The Guardian, hinting at NFC and wireless charging. Ahtisaari has been at the helm of Nokia's design team since 2009, during which the company developed the Nokia N9, Nokia Lumia 800, and the Nokia Lumia 900.

White Nokia Lumia 800 hits Australia in March
Nokia will launch its Lumia 800 Windows Phone in Australia come March, with the existing black, cyan and magenta variants joined by a white model. Offered on Australian carriers Optus, Telstra, Vodafone "and all major retailers" no pricing for the Lumia 800 has been announced, but the smartphone will come complete with Nokia Drive for turn-by-turn navigation and Nokia Music for subscription-free streaming audio.

Nokia Bought Time, But That Clock Is Ticking
$1.25 billion in losses would normally be a pretty dire way to end a quarter, but Nokia managed to muster just enough sugar for lemonade with more than a million sales of its first two Windows Phone handsets. After months of “we’ll launch by the end of the year” promises, Elop & Co. came through with not one but two smartphones based on Microsoft’s OS, turning that duo into a trio at CES 2012 earlier this month. As foundations go it’s a solid start, but make no mistake: it only gets tougher from here.
Nokia silent on N9 sales as MeeGo kept out of spotlight
Nokia has confirmed that its smartphone sales included in this morning's financial results reveal were buoyed by the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9, though the company has declined to specify exactly how many of the niche-appeal handsets were sold. "Our ASP in the fourth quarter 2011 benefited from the sales of the higher priced Nokia N9 and Nokia Lumia devices" the Q4 2011 report indicated, though a Nokia spokesperson said the company would not be breaking down its smartphone figures to detail individual devices.
