New Nokia MeeGo duo tipped for Next Billion

, Mar 28th 2012 Discuss [0]

Nokia is reportedly planning a further two MeeGo handsets, following the N9 with a pair of low-end devices that will slot into the company's Next Billion strategy for developing markets. The news, supposedly shared with them directly from a source in the Next Billion Group itself NetbookNews reports, would come as some relief to MeeGo fans, who had seen Nokia marginalize the platform in its smartphone push out of preference for Windows Phone. Nokia N9 gets Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 dual-boot

, Mar 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

Nokia N9 hardware and Android Ice Cream Sandwich: be still our beating hearts. The ongoing Nitdroid project to put Android on the MeeGo-powered N9 has come up with a new 4.0.3 alpha release, allowing owners to boot between the official OS and an unofficial injection of Ice Cream Sandwich. The list of working functionality is surprisingly long, too, given its alpha status: multitouch, 3D drivers and OpenGL, and GSM/3G connectivity are all playing ball. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Morning Wrap-Up: February 13, 2012

, Feb 13th 2012 Discuss [0]

This weekend seems to have been all about one video, the one that you really need to watch if you've not seen it already: the one with the guy shooting a laptop full of exploding-tipped bullets with his pistol. Next there's been another form of aggression in the digital streets, that being Paul McCartney's pulling of every one of his tracks from streaming services across the earth. See Don Reisinger display his true addiction to the world of DVR, see the all-powerful Nokia N9 with Ice Cream Sandwich, and check out the posthumous Grammy given to none other than Steve Jobs - accepted by Apple's software exec. Nokia N9 Ice Cream Sandwich port gets video demo

, Feb 12th 2012 Discuss [0]

After last week's proof-of-concept shots of Android 4.0 running on Nokia's N9, port-meister Alexey Roslyakov has returned with a video demo of Ice Cream Sandwich on the ordinarily MeeGo smartphone. Roklyakov's hack turns the N9 into a dual-booting device; hitting the volume key during boot stops MeeGo from running and instead brings up Android 4.0.3. Read The Full Story

When the cloud gets tough, Google gets going, and inside sources are letting the world know that the big G is preparing a service called Google Drive to bring the fury. In the hacked up world of information releases, Apple's been hit through Foxconn and order data has been spilled. In the quad-core world, the Tegra 3 from NVIDIA may well be the head gun at Mobile World Congress 2012 for HTC - can't wait for the HTC edge to take the crown back for mobile dominance for HTC! , Feb 9th 2012 Discuss [4]

Efforts to get Nokia's N9 running Android look to be bearing fruit, with modders coaxing the MeeGo smartphone into loading Ice Cream Sandwich. The handiwork of Alexey Roslyakov, the NITDroid project builds on earlier work porting Android to the Nokia N900, though there's not yet a public release or guidance on how you can get your own N9 to dual-boot between the platforms. Nokia Bought Time, But That Clock Is Ticking

, Jan 26th 2012 Discuss [20]

$1.25 billion in losses would normally be a pretty dire way to end a quarter, but Nokia managed to muster just enough sugar for lemonade with more than a million sales of its first two Windows Phone handsets. After months of “we’ll launch by the end of the year” promises, Elop & Co. came through with not one but two smartphones based on Microsoft’s OS, turning that duo into a trio at CES 2012 earlier this month. As foundations go it’s a solid start, but make no mistake: it only gets tougher from here.
