Nokia 5230 Nuron gets reviewed: needs to be cheaper

Nokia smartphones offered by US carriers are still relatively rare, so it's with no small amount of interest that we checked out the Nokia 5230 Nuron for T-Mobile review over at SlashPhone.  The handset, known as the 5230 XpressMusic in Europe, is designed to give entry-level smartphone users a cheaper bite of the touchscreen pie, but in return for the $70 sticker they'll have to make do with a resistive display and no WiFi.

T-Mobile HTC HD2 price leaks, plus CLIQ XT and Nokia Nuron details

While we've pretty much known that T-Mobile plan to launch the HTC HD2 in the US sometime this month, what we haven't been aware of is what sort of pricing we should expect.  Thanks to a nifty leak from Tmonews, however, we now know figures for not only the HD2 but the CLIQ XT and the Nokia Nuron (aka the ExpressMusic 5230).  Best news?  The HD2 isn't as expensive as we feared it might be.

Nokia Ovi Maps now free: turn-by-turn, offline access & travel guides [Updated with Video]

Nokia Ovi Maps now free: turn-by-turn, offline access & travel guides [Updated with Video]

Nokia have announced free Ovi Maps worldwide walk and drive navigation for S60 handsets, complete with turn-by-turn spoken directions, traffic information in 10 countries and both online and offline functionality.  The new software - which will initially be available on ten S60 devices, including the Nokia E72 and N97 mini; full list after the cut - differs from existing smartphone PND apps by using vector rather than bitmap graphics; while that might not ostensibly mean much to most users, it results in increased Ovi Maps speed, less than one-tenth the data traffic and reduced battery consumption.  Meanwhile there'll also be premium-style content included for free, such as Michelin and Lonely Planet travel guides, Time Out and wcities, and close integration with Facebook.

Nokia 5230 gets hands-on preview: inexpensive entertainment

The Nokia 5230 is the Finnish firm's attempt to cash in on the success - and shape - of the 5800 XpressMusic with a more budget-minded entry-level version, and going by gsmhelpdesk's hands-on preview it sounds like they may be on to a winner.  The 5230 gets praised for its ease of use and sound quality, happily using a standard 3.5mm headphone socket rather than anything unpleasantly proprietary.

Spotify Mobile for S60 released

Spotify Mobile for S60 released

Streaming music-on-demand service Spotify threw the radio cat among the Nokia pigeons back in September, when it announced a S60 mobile client was on the way.  It's taken a few months, but now that client has been released, bringing Spotify to more than thirty devices running the S60 OS; that's not just Nokia handsets, either, since Spotify have made the necessary tweaks to get the app running on some S60 devices from other companies, such as the Samsung Omnia HD and the Sony Ericsson Satio.
