Nokia Lumia 820 hands-on extended cut with NFC

It's time to have a bit longer look at a video showing off Nokia's brand new Lumia 820, the smaller of the two smartphones revealed this week with a fully functional version of Windows Phone 8 onboard. This device has many of the same powerful attributes as the Nokia Lumia 920, but has a bit smaller profile and brings in rounded edges and an interchangeable backplate that doesn't have NFC embedded right out of the box. What we got to see yesterday was not just the special NFC-toting backplate that you can purchase separate from the 820, but the device working live with Nokia City Lens and Nokia Transport as well.

Nokia gets connected with automotive futures

This week the folks at Nokia are bringing on the next generation of their hardware and software integration talks with none other than their own Floris Van-De-Klashorst speaking about the future of automotive. The Connected Car, as they call it, is one which is a futuristic concept - this meaning that though we've got cars at the moment that are relatively connected, we've not yet scratched the surface. According to Nokia, it's Points of Interest (POI) search capabilities that are at the center of the future for vehicles that use what they call "Intelligent Technology."

Nokia's next-gen Lumia handsets could see a significant departure from the design, functionality and approach of current models, CEO Stephen Elop has teased, with the company preparing strong differentiators for WP8. Windows Phone 8 adds Nokia Maps: Offline maps, navigation, more

Windows Phone 8 will have Nokia Maps built-in, Microsoft has confirmed today at the Windows Phone Summit, with offline mapping and turn-by-turn directions. The unsurprising inclusion means that Bing Maps has been retired on Windows Phone, with Nokia's NAVTEQ subsidiary providing mapping data for the native Maps app on handsets, as well as for third-party developers with an open API.
