Firefox for Mobile coming next week for Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

Mozilla will release an alpha-build of their new Firefox Mobile browser by the end of next week, initially only for the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.  The software, codenamed Fennec, is intended for preliminary code checking with a touchscreen-centric device, according to Jay Sullivan, Mozilla vice president of mobile, and precedes a Windows Mobile version that will drop "in a few months".  As well as the multifunction search & address 'awesome bar', Firefox for Mobile will support swipe-gestures for calling up control and contextual menus, and use the same Gecko rendering engine as the desktop version of Firefox.

Nokia N810 tablet controls full theater sound system

As usage applications go, this is perhaps not applicable to most - I doubt many people have access to a Yamaha 01V96 digital mixer - but it's a cool implementation of a UMPC/MID device nonetheless.  Part of a Nokia Internet Tablet thread on the Internet Tablet Talk forums, it's a quick guide to using VNC to remotely control a full theater sound system from the touchscreen of a Nokia N810.

Patent leak: is this Nokia’s next iteration of their internet tablet?

Judging from the pictures, without being given any size numbers, it looks like it could be their next internet tablet. The patent is dated November 8th, this year, and there aren’t any details as to whether it’s a Symbian OS or Maemo based device.

It does appear to have a camera and a touch screen from the patent application, those two things alone will probably net it a spot in the N-Series of Nokia devices. Although, it looks like, if it were small enough, that Nokia might be making the next Sidekick?

Nokia N810 Internet Tablet well worked over by ThoughtFix

If information on Nokia's N810 Internet Tablet is your current poison of choice, then you'll want to go hang out with ThoughFix who is blogging the hell out of the compact net-surfing device. Not content with a nicely detailed overview video of the device (which you can see after the cut), he's been comparing it to its N800 predecessor, checking out video performance (as the N800 was renowned for promising big things in mobile video but lacking the processor grunt to back up those claims) and generally exploring why the N810 should have space in your bag.

This will be the third version of this product, indicating a good level of success for a once-perceived niche market. This time they are pimping it out with a full keyboard.

The model number is the N810, so really it will just be an upgraded version of the N800. The internet tablet will have the Mozilla browser, Skype, a camera, music player, oh, and the best part, they are integrating the GPS hardware and a bunch of pre-loaded maps.

FCC leaked details on what could be Nokia’s next internet tablet with GPS this time

Not much is known, as manufacturers are getting smarter and filing to have just about everything blocked from public view. What is known is that its made by Nokia, fits the pictured outline, and isn’t a phone.

We also know that it will have Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS all built in. Other than that we don’t know much else other than it did pass all its tests, so it should make it to market soon.
