“Uniquely Nokia” key to tablet plans says Stephen Elop

“Uniquely Nokia” key to tablet plans says Stephen Elop

Nokia's tablet plans have rumbled along for some time now, with no sign of any hardware - at least that's been revealed to us mere consumers - and it looks like we shouldn't expect an iPad rival any time soon, either. In an interview with YLE, CEO Stephen Elop has reiterated the stance first taken at the Nokia Windows Phone announcement, that the company's engineers are looking at all the possible options from Microsoft's software line-up, along with "other software assets" that likely includes MeeGo.

Nokia T7-00 leaks (but sorry, it’s no tablet)

News of a new Nokia device has leaked, courtesy of the OVI Publisher tools, the Nokia T7-00. The first of what would be a new line of nomenclature for the company, while it's tempting to think that "T" stands for "Tablet", unfortunately that doesn't seem particularly likely; well, not unless you like your slates particularly low-resolution.

Nokia readying 4 Windows Phone 7 handsets, MeeGo tablet rumored

Nokia readying 4 Windows Phone 7 handsets, MeeGo tablet rumored

Nokia looks to be hitting the ground running with up to four Windows Phone 7 handsets already in the R&D pipeline. The Phones are rumored to be based on Nokia's "Chasis 1" with a 1Ghz processor and capacitive touch screens. The other two mid range phones will be worked into "Chasis 2" with a slower 800 Mhz processor and resistive screens. In addition, Nokia's rumored Windows tablet entry won't be out until 2012 and will feature a full version of Windows 8, rather than the lean and mean Phone mobile OS. But others think that MeeGo isn't dead and may find a home in the tablet interface.

Nokia “tweener” tablet tipped in mobile gaming push [Video]

Nokia's tablet ambitions may see the company slotting a so-called "tweener" device in-between smartphone and the currently available slates, according to Nokia EVP Tero Ojanperä. Nokia considering Microsoft and MeeGo for future tablets

Nokia considering Microsoft and MeeGo for future tablets

Nokia's tablet strategy may look to Microsoft's platforms and, according to Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, "what they are currently working on", however the company could also use its own platforms, such as MeeGo. Reluctant to comment specifically on the potential for Windows 7, Windows Phone 7 or MeeGo tablet-scale hardware specifically, Elop stressed that Nokia had reserved the right to use something different from Microsoft's range.

Nokia Android Honeycomb tablet is latest odd OS rumor

Nokia continues to insist it has no plans to deviate from its two-prong Symbian/MeeGo platform strategy, but the rumors that they're looking to Android or Windows Phone 7 just keep on coming. Slipped quietly into a DigiTimes report on Android Honeycomb tablets is the suggestion that Nokia has been working with Google - and is among a cadre of smartphone manufacturers getting preferential treatment, no less - on an Android slate that could launch early in the first half of 2011.

Google Tablet, HP 6-inch mini slate & Nokia ereader tipped to take on Apple iPad

Google Tablet, HP 6-inch mini slate & Nokia ereader tipped to take on Apple iPad

Whether iPad-inspired or just coincidental, it sounds like Google aren't content to leave the tablet market to Apple.  While devices like the Notion Ink Adam and ICD Gemini will both run Android, according to the NYT Google are planning an own-brand tablet; CEO Eric Schmidt has apparently been boasting about the Android-based Google tablet at a recent party, and sources with "direct knowledge of the project" reckon the search giant has been quietly working on media content deals including magazines and newspapers.  Meanwhile, there's also talk of a second HP tablet, with a six-inch touchscreen.

Nokia N920 leaks? Non-QWERTY capacitive Internet Tablet tipped

We're inherently sceptical of anything blurry that's claiming to be a prototype, so throw some salt over your shoulder and take a look at what's tipped as Nokia's next-gen N9xx-series Internet Tablet device.  According to imobile365 the Nokia N920 will be a touchscreen-only device, using a 4.13-inch capacitive touchscreen rather than the N900's 3.5-inch resistive panel and supporting multitouch gestures on Maemo 6.
